Recommended Posts

hi guys!

first of all i want to present myself, my name is Sergio and I'm a mexican guitar player who like to play line 6 products, i recently bought a used variax 600 and i absolutly love it, but my problem begin when i decided to change de string gauge, 9 to 10s and then my High E string started to drop in volume to the point that if i touch with my nail the piezo part it fixes, but its just a temporary thing, i don't know what to do and i search this issue and it seems to be some common stuff, i don't know if the part is dying or its something that can be solved, hope you can help me, because the support in mexico didnt do much for me. thank you in advance!

And if the piezo is dead or damaged, you can replace it quite easily.  For some reason, Line 6 went with a single wire piezo that relies on the case for a ground either through the string or the bridge itself.  Any dirt or contamination can prevent good contact and cause a big volume drop on that string.

i just cleaned the piezo part and at first it didn't work properly but as i tuned it seems to work, i will be playing it to see if its solved, thanks guys! ill keep posting any updates on this case!

The piezo won't give any sound without enough tension on the piezo. If you don't tune to E standard on your 9's it's most likely it's not getting enough tension so you either need to go back up to 10's or tune to E and use the virtual tunings.

i actually change from 9s to 10s but i clean the piezo and turned 180 degrees and now its working i hope it stay like that at least 10 years from now, thanks to everybody ill keep you updated when something weird happens.

You could always buy electrical contact cleaner to help it ground better.

Even then, it just requires a small solder job, easy to do. I did it twice on my 600.

can you explain a little more that soldering you did?

You loosen the strings, take off the trem springs, then unscrew the bridge posts. carefully disconnect the ribbon cable and you should see a circuit board on the trem block. find the piezo that has the problem, desolder it and solder in a new piezo that you can buy from fullcompass. Reassemble and it should be fine.

I did it twice. one for the D string one for the fat E string.
