HERBEY
Hi Our band bought the MD20 around 6 months ago for live sound and also recording, which we area on a learning curve from base 1.The live sound has gone fine no real issues, however we tried to record recently with full band hooked up to the mixer 2 vocals 2 guitars, bass and electronic drums. We mixed the band as normal as per gig levels but when we played it back on the mixer the vocal and drums where significantly higher in the mix than the guitars. We mixed the drums and vocals right down to compensate, but on playback of the recording exactly the same problem.we tried this mix as input only and also mix only but alas nothing change. Any theories why the vocals and drums are playing back louder even though they are down in the mix? we tried 2 different sd cards but no change. I have read on another thread that the mixer leaves headroom on the recording for the channels to be brought up, which might explain the quietness of the guitars/bass but not the difference in levels of the vocals/drums. From experience is something we may be doing wrong or does it sound like a problem with the mixer? Thanks for any help! Chris
Rick_Auricchio
The signal going to the recorder is tapped after the input gain stage, but before the fader. So, let's say you have really hot input levels on the vocals, but you've pulled down the faders for the live performance because they'd be too loud in the live mix. The recording will still be made at the "input level" of the signal. See the attached portion of the block diagram.
HERBEY
Ok thanks for that reply. We are having another practice tomorrow,so we will have to check the input levels before they are going in to the mixer.hopefully we will get some improvement!:) cheers
Rick_Auricchio
If you play back a recording using the M20d---and have your faders set where they were during your performance---then I'd except a proper mix.

Hopefully we can can know take it from there and see what we can turn this live mix into on our DAW.

BucF16
Do you do a set list? Rename the first song of each set "Start the Recorder" That's what it finally took for me. Now I got to remember to turn if off!
Rick_Auricchio
Great idea with the set list trick!
HERBEY
We will have to try that, great idea. We usualy gig a lot of birthday parties etc,so the idea is to record a gig, then offer it to the organizer for a small fee.

Heh heh...I've been watching too many crime stories on TV, so my first thought was to record people in compromising situations---then offer the recording to them for a fee.
