dodomoon
Hello, I'ma anew hd500 user. I bought it mainly to use directly into a PA system, that actually is a couple of mackie srm450, ana a mackie mixer 1604 vlz3. I've got a couple of questions: 1 - I connect the pod to the mixer, with 2 xlr cables in 2 channel with identical settings. Why, if i set internal mixer L&R 100% panned or centered, the sound is different? I noticed that centered is louder and brighter. 2 - It is just mine impression, or basically the amps are "dark sounding"? I noticed that for having a bright and not muddy tone, I have to lower bassa a lot and raise highs and presence after 80%. this is mainly true for marshall type amps. 3 - i need an advice on setting tones at home: I notice that the best way to set up tones is recreating a "live" situation at home, with the PA about 10 meters far from my ears, and a volume quite high (fortunately my parents house is big enough, my apartment is like an Hobbit hole!). do you have any suggestion? like raise or lower bass, mids, highs? thank you
Jeepjones85
I can try to answer your first question lol I found a video on YouTube about the pan knob trick and basically from the factory line 6 has the pan knobs panned hard left and right im not sure why but when I make a patch if I pan them both back to unity it seems to effect the tone, kinda makes it more punchy so if I like that sounds for that setting I'll leave it that way lol the only reason I think it comes set the way it does is for true stereo sound for like a ping pong delay. And for your second question I haven't really noticed the amps being real dark but I think I know what your talking about, usually I set up a parametric eq at the vary end of the chain just so my sound can cut through. I play a strat mostly so of course I downloaded Lincoln Brewster's patches and on his main tone I wrote his settings down for his eq settings and I apply that to most all my live patches. He actually is a studio engineer and he hd500 tone is phenomenal lol but thats player preference. As far as live playing I get the the best tone I can get at home as close to stage volume as possible without the police being called lol Then when we practice at church at stage volume I can tweak my tone from there. Bass mid and treble sound way different at louder volumes than at home. Like if you make a good sounding patch at home with just the right amount of bass when you play live that bass setting might be to bassy and over powering. dodomoon
tthanl you very much for the answers. I'm not new to pd and amp simulators ( i had the pod 2.0, the zoom g9 and a digitech rp 500) and now this hd 500 blows away any other effect.... it needs a lot of tweaks but not as much as the others to find a good tone, but one thing is sooo true: I should make a patch with only ears, not with eyes and preconcepts... so next time if I like a sound with bass at 2% and presence at 98%... iìll use it without thiking about percentages! just a little disapointing thing... dsp limit... I know taht even eventide has dps limits... but with a so powerfull and polyedric tool... it's a pity to have limits!!! it could be wonderfull if line6 make a program that use a connected pc cpu to help the dsp....
