duncann
Can anyone else confirm that the Mutant Filter doesn't behave properly? 1. Use a new preset and add a mutant filter 2. Play the guitar and remember how the effect sounds (it doesn't sound quite right) 3. Adjust the Gain down 0.1 then up 0.1 4. Play the guitar and notice that now it sounds correct 5. Save the preset 6. Switch to a different preset 7. Switch back to the preset saved in step 5 8. Repeat steps 2 through
duncann
Nobody hears a difference? What I hear is subtle but obvious. It might help if you put a higher gain amp in the chain and use headphones. The difference between the two mutant filter effects I'm hearing is: the one that doesn't sound right has the frequency range it's working on higher (like a wah with a position from 50 to 100) than after adjusting the gain down 0.1 then up 0.1. After the adjustment, the frequency range sounds lower (like a wah with a position from 0 to 75), and also more correct to my ears. It seems to me that it shouldn't operate like this, and I fear it's a bug with the mutant filter.

Good to know... but this is older post now so did you have any luck with this in a firmware update or something? I'm considering a Helix & Mu-Tron is important. Thanks! I'm considering a Helix & Mu-Tron is important. Thanks! Yes. This was a bug that was fixed a few firmwares ago. They also added an auto filter since then, which is basically a more tweakable version of the Mu-Tron, or mutant filter, more parameters exposed and easier to work with. I have the HD Pro X, & I don't really like their versions of the q-tron... I'm assuming these sound better?
duncann
also, while I'm thinking of it... I have the HD Pro X, & I don't really like their versions of the q-tron... I'm assuming these sound better? The Helix version is a bit more defined and the controls correspond to the controls that are on the real thing, unlike the HD version. It behaves like the real thing also, judging from videos of the real thing. But I actually prefer the HD version. The Helix version's pick attack is almost too defined and too clear and sudden despite trying to tweak it to a smoother state of being, whereas the HD version is somehow smoother and less harsh. Also, I swear I sometimes hear distinct steps in the Helix version as it goes through what it does. These two things are subtle enough, though, that I can overlook them.
