foarob1
Hi I have a spider valve mki that i have had for about 2 years that i havent had any issues with until recently. When it is turned on it works fine for a few minutes then starts to make a terrible squeeling/ feedback kind of noise. It is louder than than the guitar and will do it at all volume levels. It will still do it even if you unplug the guitar from the amp. I have replaced the preamp tubes with a set I had laying around and no change. any insight would be great , Rob

psarkissian
If you are a gigging musician, it's good to replace the tubes every 12-18 months. If you are a weekend warrior garage band, replaced the tubes every 20-24 months. Both pre-amp and power tubes. Replace them with the factory type Sovtek 5881WXT, and the 12AX7B generic China tubes. The digital and analog sections are matched up in a way that using something other than that can cause problems. I see too many come back because someone put in something other than the factory specified tubes, and ends up blowing it. And made worse because they did not use the correct bias for those other version tubes. These amps are not as forgiving of alterations or mods, as the tube amps in the 1960's and 70's were.
