Force Variax model, but use guitar input

When I choose "multi" as input, then both inputs, the VDI and the guitar input will be heard. This does not make sense when I use a pedal before the Helix.

But how can I force the Variax model or the tuning when using only the guitar input?

This was very easily possible with the HD500, but it is notpossible with the Helix. :(

Just put the external pedal in the first Helix FX loop, and place that as the very first thing in the signal chain.  This way you will still be able to use the VDI connection for the Variax and Helix. and all of your routing after the FX loop can stay as it was.

I've heard that It isn't recommended to use both the VDI output and the 1/4" output on the Variax at the same time anyway.

On any of the input blocks, you can choose from variax mags or the piezo processed sounds (coming from VDI connection) if you need to split those up later on, and those can be assigned per preset.

Great answer and among the advantages of this approach is the Variax is powered by the Helix's VDI connection so you don't have to worry about the battery, you retain a digital connection all the way through from the Variax to the Helix, and you get the Helix's guitar input clear to use for a second guitar.
