zooey
I posted a bit ago about Line 6 giving me a loaner while my Helix was back at the factory for repair. My own Helix is back to me now. It's on 2.11. The loaner was on 2.20, so I had to install 2.20 on my laptop to load my patches onto it. When I got mine back, I wanted to make sure it was ok before updating it, plus during the work week I wanted to play in the little time I had, instead of messing around w updates. Net of that is that I now have a patch I'd like to keep on my own 2.11 Helix, but my laptop is on 2.20. Ideally, the plan would be to back up that one 2.11 patch with the installed 2.20 editor, update my Helix to 2.20, load the 2.20 patches I already backed up from the loaner, then load that one 2.11 patch if possible. PUNCH LINE QUESTION: Can I back up that one patch from a 2.11 Helix using the 2.20 editor? If not, I don't think it's worth installing the 2.11 editor just to back up that one patch. Would be a minor shame, I like it.
silverhead
Interesting question and I don't know the answer but here is how I would proceed. First I would take notes on the preset in case you have to rebuild it. Then I would try using the 2.2 editor with the 2.11 firmware. You never know - it just might allow you to back up the patch successfully, and I don't think it can do any damage other than freezing either the device or the editor. Both should recover with a restart. If that doesn't work I would upgrade the Helix to v2.20 but I would defer the global reset. After upgrading and before resetting you will still have the v2.11 presets in the device now running the v2.20 firmware. It's the reset that overwrites the presets. In the interim you could try firing up the 2.20 editor and see what happens. If neither of those things work then I think you'll have to manually rebuild it from your notes. zooey
No problem with this process. Backed up that one 2.11 patch using the 2.20 editor, upgraded my Helix to 2.20 (which by the way went like clockwork, zero issues), imported the 2.20 bundle I'd saved from the loaner, imported my IRs, imported that one 2.11 patch, restarted holding down switches 10 & 11 to update preset format, good to go. One bit of pilot error: I didn't initially realize IRs weren't part of a saved bundle. I'd never used a bundle before, for the reasons everyone has said, but in this case it seemed like the simplest way to go, and it was. I had backed up everything separately also, so I just imported my IRs, done.
