Helix LT using Orange Crush CR60C Amp

Hello Folks,

Really I think I need a guitar technician

Just purchased the Helix LT (late to the party)! I have a couple of scenarios to discuss:

If someone can answer all the points in these questions I will happily donate a small fee to a paypal account of their choice, seriously!

  1. Helix LT using Orange Crush CR60C Amp - I would like to use the Orange amps speaker to simulate the amps\cabs in the Helix LT patches\presets, how does the following work
    1. Cabling from Helix LT to Orange Crush amp (I'm assuming it's not 4 cable method as this would use the Orange amps pre-amp) and I basically just want to use everything on the Helix LT (Amps\Cabs\Effects) through a clean speaker is this using guitar amp FX return, I'm not sure?
    2. What are the Global settings that need to be set for such a config as this e.g. send\return etc.
    3. What are the patch 'blocks' that need to be added to enable the correct signal chain
  2. Helix LT direct to PA using DI i.e. no Guitar amplifier
    1. Cabling from Helix LT to DI, would I use XLR (set to line in global settings) or use 1/4 mono out to DI and then DI to PA stage box\PA Mixer?
    2. What are the Global settings that need to be set for such a config as this e.g. send\return etc.
    3. What are the patch 'blocks' that need to be added to enable the correct signal chain?

Yours Hopefully

Unfortunately you can't really use the Orange to simulate the cabs/IRs and mic's from the Helix, because you already have a cab in the Orange.  In effect you would be layering a cabinet/mic combination from the Helix on top of the Orange cabinet which wouldn't be an accurate representation.  However, all is not lost.  It's entirely possible to send one signal to the Orange that doesn't have the cab/mic emulation through the 1/4" out, and a separate signal to the FOH that does have the cab/mic emulation via the XLR.

The technique for doing this has nothing to do with global settings, but is handled in the way the signal chain is constructed in each patch.  There are several people doing this that can outline their techniques better than I can because I don't do this as I use a FRFR speaker on stage, but the concept is pretty simple.  You have a main signal path that contains all your regular blocks for your patch including cabs and specifically uses the XLR out in that signal path's output block and into a DI or a phantom power blocker, then on to the mixing board.  The main signal path branches off to a secondary signal path prior to the cabinet block and goes specifically out to the 1/4" output via the output block for that signal path and into the Orange effects return.

Thanks DunedinDragon for clarifying the Orange CAB question, all examples of other Helix LT user techniques using either Orange amp (with no CABS\IRs) or cab\mic emulation via XLR to FOH are most welcome
