JimiDjango
I was wondering if it would be possibe to connect a Hughes & Kettner Tubemeister 18 amp head to my Spider Jam amp without causing damage to both. The Tubemeister has something called a Red Box out that uses an XLR cable that outputs a line level signal for recording. I was thinking of hooking the Red Box XLR to the Spider Jam's XLR mic input. Seems like it would work. Thought I'd ask here before trying it. Thanks for the help!
Brazzy
Do not plug the output of the tube amp into the input of the Spider Jam. I'm pretty sure that would do damage. Does your H&K have an effects loop?
JimiDjango
Yes, it does have an effects loop.
Brazzy
Check with a Line 6 Expert about this before just trying it. You might be able to run the Spider Jam through the effects loop, like this; Guitar into the H&K input, H&K effects send to Spider Jam input, Spider Jam Headphones output to effects return. Hopefully the diagram I made better explains what I had in mind. You might also be able to do this; Guitar > Spider Jam input > Spider Jam Headphones out > H&K effects return. Again I haven't yet done these routings with my Spider Jam. I'm just trying to help you get some ideas and answers. Hopefully I learn something in the process as I'm interested in anything pertaining to this equipment. Added: Sorry if I went off on a tangent, LOL. The XLR route you asked about just might work. I've run an HD 500 XLR out into the Spider Jam Mic input and it sounded great. I would think the XLR out of your H&K would be a similar signal. I'll add that after 5 years of using the Spider Jam it still works great, I'm very happy I got it when I did. I can get some good tones with it. JimiDjango
Thanks for the help Brazzy. I went and tried the H&K 'Red Box' xlr out into the input and it seems to work fine. So basically that works for me. If the Red Box quits working I'll try your other effects loop technique. But since the H&K is brand new I don't expect any probs with it for a long time or not at all if I'm lucky. Also, I appreciate the graphic. It's helpful. I agree, the Spider Jam is a steal considering what you get for the money. Thanks again. Cheers! :)
