HX Stomp re-amping question

Greetings all,

I'm in the market for a new recording interface, and I'm seriously considering the HX Stomp for all it's other features as well.  I have a question about it's re-amping function that I'm having trouble finding information on anywhere else - hopefully one of you has tried this.

In my project studio (just me using it). my guitar input setup will be as follows:

1.  Guitar to HX instrument input (mono, in the back).

2.  HX send to the input of a Fuchs Blackjack 21 amp.

3.  Fuchs speaker output to a reactive load.

4.  Reactive load output to the return of the HX

5.  USB out to DAW.

Granted, this is a modification of the 4-cable technique, but apparently it has been successfully done.

Now, here's the re-amping part.

1.  Will the dry guitar track have the Fuchs tone in it? I'm guessing not, because the send/return block will be turned off - am I wrong?

2.  Assuming I'm right, while re-amping, the input to the HX from the dry guitar track will be set to USB 5/6.

3.  If the send/receive block is turned on, will the signal go out to the Fuchs and receive the amp tone on the return?

If the answer is yes, that is a huge plus for the HX.

Thanks in advance for your help!

1. No. The dry output is sent directly over USB from the input jack. By default it uses USB channel 7  but you can change this if you wish. There is no processing of the USB-destined dry signal on the Helix preset signal path. It has nothing to do with the FX Loop block being on or off. The USB dry signal never reaches that block.

2. Typically you would record the dry signal on a mono track. You can use any of USB channels 3 through 6, or the 3/4 or 5/6 pairs if you wish. Just make sure the Input block in your Helix preset uses the same USB channel(s) as your DAW channel Send for the dry guitar track.

3. Yes, assuming the setup you described in your first set of points (1 through 5) works. You say it has apparently been done successfully. I’m not familiar with what you’re describing there. But if it works in the original setup it will work when re-amping also.

Thank you, Silverhead - I must have missed the description of the dry signal going directly to USB from the input jack.  This part is perfect!

There is a YouTube video describing the first set of points; the gentleman calls it his 3-cable method, since there is no 4th cable going back from the HX Stomp to the amp.  He uses it all the time, and it evidently works just fine.  Your extrapolation of that to the re-amping setup is ideal - exactly what I wanted to hear.  So, you can not only record one track with the real amp in the HX loop, you can eliminate it in the dry track.

Seriously, you can't ask for more.

Thanks again!

....

Yes. The only thing that happens to the incoming analog signal is an A/D conversion. After that it is sent directly over USB to your DAW.
