Recording MIDI using HX Stomp MIDI thru

I want to record MIDI in PreSonus Studio One, and I'm trying to do this using the HX Stomp's MIDI input. I've tried setting this up (I shall explain how), but so far it hasn't worked.

 

What I'm doing:

 

In order to pass MIDI through HX Stomp, MIDI thru has to be enabled. This is achieved in the Global Settings > MIDI/Tempo settings (see HX Stomp manual: https://line6.com/data/6/0a020a4010c935bb66a4c0c44f/application/pdf/HX Stomp Manual - English .pdf).

 

Next, I plug the HX Stomp to a Windows computer via USB, and use it as an audio interface in Presonus Studio One 5. This works as expected.

 

Now I plug a MIDI keyboard (Kurzweil SP2X) into the HX Stomp via a MIDI cable.

 

Now it should be set up so that Studio One receives MIDI input from the keyboard via the HX Stomp. But when I play the keyboard, Studio One does not register anything.

 

Why I'm doing it:

 

I'm experiencing a lot of latency when plugging my MIDI devices straight into my computer via USB. I've tried adjusting audio device settings in Studio One to minimize latency, which helps but not enough. I'm guessing this is mostly because my sound card is not very good, but perhaps also because my CPU isn't exceptional either.

 

Question:

 

What I'm doing here should be possible, right? Have I set it up wrong?
