IR chain with HX effects

Hello,

I own an HX effects and I was wondering how to use IR by amplifying it with my Mesa Boogie Dual Rectifier.
Would it be safe and work if I :
- Plug my guitar into the Mesa
- Plug the Send effect loop of the Mesa into the Send of the HX effects
- Go through an effect with an IR into the effect loop of the HX effects
- Plug the Return effect loop into my sound card and straight into a DAW

I know it is required to always have a cabinet plug with the right impedance when using the Mesa, so I would have the master volume pretty low (I have neighbours..). Could it be a problem ?
Do I need to plug something into the return of the Mesa ?

Thank you!

If you don't plug anything into the return of the Mesa, then you may not get any sound out of the amp. That might be what you want. You'd still need to keep a speaker connected, but wouldn't need to worry about the master volume.

Otherwise this should work: guitar > Mesa input > Mesa FX send > HX Effects input >> post amp blocks: IR, chorus, delay, reverb, etc. >> audio interface line input > DAW.

You'd be getting the preamp sound and distortion of the Mesa, not the whole amp. That might be ok. Try it and see.
