luthierwnc
Hi All, I am setting up a Line 6 HF Effects and am getting multiple problems. I've downloaded current versions of HX Edit and Line 6 Updater with icons on the desktop. With the device powered-up I get the message above button 5 "Boot Failure: res = - 33. That happens whether the USB cable is in or not. With the device on USB with the HX Edit I get the message "'no device connected'. On the Updater I get the message 'Select device to update'. I even tried reloading the factory presets using the 'action' > command -- nada. None of the displays even blinked. There doesn't seem to be a failure or error log in the manual. The unit shows Firmware Version 2.51.0. No combination of buttons on the box has any effect on the display. I've tried both the stock USB cable and a spare I had in the drawer. Different ports on the computer too. The only other USB devices in use are the keyboard and mouse from a different port. Win 10 Pro. I've had a look at each of those three problems individually but haven't found solutions. Usually I can figure out one error but this thing is just frozen. Any clues will help. Thanks. Don’t Panic - It is very rare that a glitch in the firmware will actually turn your device into an paperweight. I will assume that you have read through and tried all the suggestions posted here on the forum, but let’s just give this one more go around. I keep saying that I will stop doing this, but here we go again. Once more from the top! You don’t mention what your computer and OS are, but I will guess Windows plus the same routine should be the same for Mac. Also you don’t say what version firmware you had installed and or if you have updated firmware previously with success. Firstly go to the "DOWNLOADS" menu at the top of this page and from "-ALL HARDWARE-" select HX Effects. Leave the "-ALL SOFTWARE-" menu item as it is, now select your Windows system or Mac OSX from under the "-ALL OS-" tab, then click “GO”. On the next page you will find the first 3 items you will need. The Line 6 Updater v. 1.23, along with HX Edit 3.11 for your HX Effects and then you will need the Firmware 3.11.0 Flash Memory. Download all these items to your computer and note where they are. Then: Remove all Line 6 software from your computer especially the Windows drivers and then restart your computer. Make sure to turn off the power to your HX Effects. Unplug the USB cable from the computer and the HX Effects. Power up the HX Effects while holding down “PAGE >”. This will put the unit in a fail safe update mode. Use this when the HX Effects is in an un-recoverable state (should doing this give you a completely blank screen, you should still be able to re-install the firmware again.) Leave the HX Effects powered up. Now you can install the latest HX Edit v. 3.11 (with all the drivers) Reconnect the USB cable to the HX Effects and your computer - Do not use a Hub. (Some USB ports on the front of a PC can act as a hub, so use one on the back). Ensure that HX Edit is closed and also shutdown any other background tasks, screen savers etc., also disconnect from any internet services. You don’t want anything to interfere with this installation routine. Now, find and launch the Line 6 Updater Utility and select "Offline Mode". Your HX Effects and current firmware version should now show up in the window, click on the dark green coloured band and you should now have the option to select a local file - point it at the Flash Memory file you downloaded and let it get on with the update. When it completes you can launch the new HX Edit v.3.0 software and you should be good to go. No guarantee is given or implied - you do so at your own risk. If this fails, contact Line 6 Customer Support and raise a ticket. Hope this helps/makes sense. EDIT: I just spotted that you are trying to update from v.2.51.0 Please note that the Core operating system change at version 2.80, and the “Boot Failure” is a known and expected part of the update routine. It is fully documented in the release notes for the firmware update procedure. Although you can go straight from 2.51.0 to the latest version, it a good idea to check out any possible glitches. The above routine should fix it. Also check out the 2.8 notes here. Edited July 3, 2021 by datacommando Added Edit and Link
luthierwnc
Thanks datacommando. I think the power-up with the page arrow made the difference. Cheers, sh
