alex1fly
Been playing 21 years and am looking to upgrade my FX and amp modeling. The Helix floor is high in the running. I'm brainstorming my "best case scenario" setup for live performance and want to see if the community thinks this is doable. Guitar, bass guitar, and vocals all run into the Helix. Guitar gets dual amp blocks and a couple of internal footswitchable FX. Bass gets it's own amp and a couple of internal footswitchable FX. Vocals gets it's own set of blocks and a couple of internal footswitchable FX. All of the FX for the three instruments available on the board simultaneously so that I can cue guitar FX, bass FX, and vocal FX without having to switch modes or anything... still learning the lingo, but hopefully you all get the idea. Mono output is fine, this all just goes to a looper and then to a PA system currently. I guess alternatively I could run these multiple instruments into a mixer and then the main mixer out into the Helix, and then switch presets as I switch instruments. However, two things are coming to my mind instantly: - Three amps in total will eat up a considerable amount of CPU juice, so there might not be much left for other processing duties. You might want to try whether one guitar amp with some overdrive pedals in front would do the job as well. - In case the bass is active, you should be able to run it into one of the returns just fine. In case it's passive, you *might* run into some issues and it'd probably take some pre-Helix buffering (well, maybe a DI box would be sufficient to take care of impedance issues). Otherwise, as said, it should work just fine, in case you don't want to use too many complexed FX.
DunedinDragon
There are several different ways of doing this sort of thing but my first impression might be to separate the different instruments into different presets to reduce the DSP footprint needed for each. Since it's all going to the looper anyway you could easily incorporate the appropriate looper MIDI commands into the Helix itself and save yourself some complexity in your setup.
