HELP: Controlling basic preset controls on Helix Floor with Custom Audio Electronics RS-5

Hi All,

My first real post on here.

I have a Helix floor and have used it for years now, however with the varying quality of the venues we are playing as of late I wanted to make the sure the helix was kept safe and out of the way so I have purchased a Custom Audio Electronics (CAE) RS-5 Midi Footswitch so the helix can sit in our rack whilst the CAE does all the work.

Long story short. I am having a nightmare just trying to use the basic preset switches. All I want to do is assign 4 Helix presets and 1 helix snapshot to the the bottom 5 CAE buttons. All I have managed to do at the moment is assign the first preset to number 1 (not sure how, but it seemed to work straight away).

All help would be greatly appreciated as I have read the manual for CAE extensively at this point and my only over thought is that something isn't configured correctly with the Helix Floor.

Thanks in advance!

Tom

The Helix default MIDI Channel is 1. Check in Global Settings>MIDI/Tempo to verify that the MIDI BASE CHANNEL = 1.

Set MIDI PC RECEIVE = MIDI

If the Base Channel is correct that should be all you need.

Connect your RS-5 to your computer.

If Helix is your only MIDI Interface, make sure that Global Settings>MIDI/Tempo>MIDI THRU is ON.

Load a MIDI MONITOR program. Google to find one that is compatible with your computer.

You'll now be able to see EXACTLY what is being sent by the RS-5.

I don't own an RS-5. I had a look at the manual.

This is why I would not own a MIDI Controller that does not have a computer based editor.

Having a MIDI Monitor will be essential to getting this working.

If you have any Helix specific MIDI questions feel free to ask.

Good Luck!
