EddieTheTrooper
Is there any one who could share with some nice Iron Maiden tones. Especially something from Fear of the Dark album and Seventh Son of a Seventh Son but can be some others too Also I'm looking for Nightwish tones mostly from Tarja era like Century Child, Wishmaster and Oceanborn albums. If there is no one who could share with his tones than maybe some advises how to set up my Cat to sound anything close to those?
AParedes
the classic Iron Maiden Guitar tone was based on the Marshall 2204. I would try the Voltage (crunch) or Kinetic (Dynamic) for the amp setting, then adjust the other effects as needed. Here are the Tone Templates for Adrian and Dave from Piece of Mind's tour for additional info: https://line6.com/tone-templates-diagrams/adrian-smith--piece-of-mind-tour.html https://line6.com/tone-templates-diagrams/dave-murray--piece-of-mind-tour.html
EddieTheTrooper
OH, I forgot about this. Thnx for advice. I am testing Voltage and 2204 MOD right and both I like the most for Iron Maiden. But still straggling to find some really good HEAVY(real heavy) and power metal sounds. I like distorted sounds of Catalyst and it is good and enough at my level but still think that something is missing with them. Not sure if buying some distortion pedal would solve this. I heard that open cabinets are worse at hi gain than closed cabinets. Is that true?

Is that true? That’s always been my experience. Open-back cabs sound airy and ambient, not really what you want for tight, chugging riffs. You can do a quick, easy cab-tuning test by borrowing a couple of carpenter’s pipe clamps, and using them to attach a piece of plywood to the back of your amp. Be gentle about it, so you don’t damage the tolex. I’ve had good results on SS combos in the past, by leaving a narrow slot port to tune the bass response and make sure that the amp doesn’t overheat.
