HD500X Footswitch (UP located at leftmost) stops working, Troubled maintaining revised Presets and View BIG LETTERS

I have not used this POD HD500X much since I bought new 6-7 years ago. I ran into few issues:

1- I just found that the UP-Footswitch that is located far left stops working. I tried to press several times and was not successful. If I tried to twist the locking ring or push the stem sideway it would work but after few times it would not solve. Last night I learned that if I just turned on, the UP Switch would click and work but after 30-45 minutes it would  still click but stopped Up function again. If I turn off, wait 15 mins and on it will not work. Other switches are Ok. Right now I have to use Behringer FCB1010 to help.

2- Troubled maintaining revised Presets. I noticed that many presets that I changed or adjusted levels of subcomponents will not remain updated (Amp disappeared, Mixer lowered) I had to redo again and again. Does it have to do with saved directories of files? Or problems with internal memory?

3- View BIG LETTERS: It is a must for playing and it should be default. Why this can't be activated by foot? Why if I use HD500X-Edit on PC and send down, then the Pedal View will change to small letter and stay small? Next thing I have to kneel down with guitar on my neck to tap the view to get back to see BIG 1A....16D.

4- I need full instruction how to program Midi controller, such as Behringer FCB1010. Can I program FCB1010 to resume BIG LETTER and retrieve all other presets? Most position now is the HD500X on desktop. There is a small section in the Tech manual about it but very short and abbreviated.

With the price of all gears raised up 100-150% and quality trimmed down 200%, I need to keep and maintain my old collection. Thank you very much,

Read this (it might be useful): Fixing non-functional footswitch buttons

2- Troubled maintaining revised Presets.

If you edit presets directly on the device (no computer editor running) you must save every time you finish editing 1 preset and want to move to another preset otherwise you will lose all the changes made.

If you edit presets using the computer editor it is able to temporarily (untill it is still running) store the changes made to multiple presets but before closing the editor it is necessary to transmit/send the list with the edited presets to the device otherwise you will lose all the changes made.

Unfortunately it is not possible to make this display mode the default, nor is it recallable via MIDI

In the appendix of the advanced guide downloadable from this site there is a section dedicated to MIDI with a list of all the commands to which the POD responds (and FYI there is no command for the Home View mode)..

hurghanico: Thanks a lot. This is my 1st post and reply. Sorry if I do it incorrectly.

1- Up-Fs. I think it is not entirely mechanical (spring or internal contact). The reason is, I tried it again today after I posted. And after approximately 30 minutes it would stop (clicked but not UP). So I turned it off and waited about 15 mins and power up. Up-Fs clicked but no action. Tried again after let it cool down about 30-45mins. Press-clicked once saw no UP action. So I decided to press CONTINUOUSLY. To my surprise, the UP function worked again both single or rolling UP. I read once that some cables could cause problem. May be heat aggravates contact? Anyway, I may open the back and try to do the routines that you kindly sent.

[UPDATE May23,2024: The UP-Sw now acting erratically. Will stop more and came back less at anytime.]

2- Feed latest revision of Preset and store in Floor Pedal: I am not good at working at the pedal (too small B&W icons). I tried to adjust Gain and Volume and that's all. The PC HDX Edit is better (not the best Line-6 could do, though). I keep saving each Preset then save Bundle (multiple? that you referred to) and sending down Single or Bundle (not All). I do all of these a lot but there are still many mysteries. As I initially wrote, I questioned how HD500X Edit program uses path of saved files, bundles and singles and how it links to different index of banks and  as borrowed Preset in various group. In Cakewalk, I can see and change them. At the end, I wish after I finished editing a tone and save (or save-as with suffix) in a central library, it should automatically update all locations I applied. Right now I don't think this is happening.

3- BIG USER View: Yes, unfortunately and sadly. It is for Final Stage undisturbed only. If Line-6 invested a little more  it will be great.  I accidentally pressed LOOPER Sw today and the BIG View came on (Why?). BTW, there is a midi command that recalls each BIG USER View of loaded Preset Number (such as 2C or 16B). I found this from Youtube that a person use Behringer FCB1010 to send command to Line-6 Helix that load a preset and more. He called a SNAP SHOT. I was able to do the same with HD500X. Few days ago, the FCB1010 sent unorganized sequence Presets. But last night I found the way to reset  that Midi Foot Pedal. Right now all 10 Switches per page (total 9 pages) give me all 1A, 1B, 1C......in order consecutively all the way to 16D. With this benefit (and lack of in HD500X), I will stick to it. I will use HD500X as a desktop or elevated POD. I will find the way to program FCB to do more such as recalling different Setlists or grouping of Banks to be 8 Presets per page on FCB1010. Within 2-3 pages, I can have 24 Presets complete stage Intro, Chord, Solo, Outro with Clean vs Crunch and FX.

4- Resources Advance manual - Midi Controller for Activate Preset. I saw once and it was very short (like 2 paragraphs with Abbreviation). I will look for more and study deeper. Yes, it is possible (I can on my FCB1010, learned from a Youtuber).

[UPDATE 3 & 4, May23,2024: You were right and I was WRONG about jumping from small icon & Setlist screen to BIG USER. Unless it was BIG before, using FCB1010 will not activate it. The worst part is, if I turn off HD500X with small screen it will resume small when I turn it back on. This is on top of any attempts on HD500X Edit on PC it will stays Small.]

Updated findings about UP FootSw, BIG USER View and external Midi Pedal:

- UP FootSw still has click sound but it can go bad anytime or become functional again anytime. This supercedes my observation about turn on/off power for certain period of time or pressing several FootSwitches. Open bottom and repair or touch up will be my last attempt. Right now, selecting Banks and Presets will be done by FCB1010 Midi controller pedal because 3 reasons: I already have it, I can ignore USER View issues and most importantly, I can program it to become the Performing groups with more Presets (up to 10) per page or bank.

- BIG USER View is a bummer. Aside from not being default view if I touch any knobs on the pedal by accident, it will change to small B&W graphic and stay small. The worst part is if I turn pedal off while having small text or icons, it will resume small when I turn power back on.

- Like most players on Youtube, I work on HD500X at desktop height. FCB1010 is my floor selector while practicing. With only 3 banks Up/Down I can select all presets I ever need. I may as well, use FCB along on stage. I have learned a lot about progam it now.

Hi,

Try Method 3 of

When I had erratic switches I originally used Method 1, but have since used Method 3 with success. Easier than opening up the Pod.

Hope that Helps,

DM.
