Struggling to find a great rhythm tone for Weir in a Dead cover band.

Recommended Posts

I play rhythm guitar in a Grateful Dead cover band and I have struggled to find a good tone.  I am playing a Bob Weir signature D'Angelico solid body through a flat-response speaker and have the HK Stomp for tone modelling.  I want a clean, bright, full, mid-heavy tone that will cut through the band without stepping on the bass or lead.  I have tried many of the presets and I haven't found any that I felt really worked.  Many of them sound fine for playing individual notes, but we have no keyboard player in our band so I spend a lot of time playing chords, and when you play a chord the tones I have tried get muddy and twangy.  I have found that for a lot of the presets - they work well for single notes but sound much less convincing for chords.  Does anybody have a preset to suggest for me to work from, or any general advice on how to get a clean, bright tone for chords?

have you tried the new Super Vibrato Amp with the Amppeg 1x15 cabinet?  That gives me a very full clean rhythm.  I also use the mic that is the 2nd to the last in the list.  (Sorry, can't remember the name)
