NervusTwitch
First Im completely new to Line 6 products and when it comes to midi I can normally do basics. So I just got the HX Stomp XL,Tonex Pedal, and Ampero Control midi switch( the one that looks like the MVAVE Chocolate). I also use an Ampero dual footswitch into the Ampero midi jack. I have Tonex setup using 4CM and midi out from the HX to Tonex. So I have 2 problems I cant figure out after googling and youtube. 1. I wanted to use the dual footswitch thru the midi controller to setup a 1 button press for changing from bank, preset and snapshot scroll option just as if you push the up/down at same time on stomp. Im not sure if Im doing something in the midi programing on the controller or something not set in HX. I set the button presses in the app to cc# 49(up) and cc52(down??). When I press the switch it will only scroll whatever scroll option its on and not change the option from say bank to preset scroll. Now I can program each footswitch in midi trigger each individual switch but not scroll down. So any help or idea what Im missing here or is it even possible ? 2. every thing else works great except when I press on my midi controller to change snapshots( 4 buttons set as SS1-4) it triggers "Color -10) on my tonex. I found that its for reverb on tonex. I dont use any of those FX on Tonex so not a real issue but would like to correct it. Any ideas to keep this from happening? Thanks. rd2rk
Default MIDI Channel on HXSXL is Ch1. Change the MIDI Channel on ToneX to Channel 2. RTM (ToneX) to find out how. I'm not sure about your other problem. Are you using a MIDI FS? A non-MIDI momentary or latching FS? If you're trying to use Command Center to cause an HXSXL FS to send MIDI to the HXSXL you need to connect the MIDI OUT to the MIDI IN. WARNING - this will sometimes cause the device to lock up or otherwise go nuts. Sometimes it works, but...

Like I mention Im very basic knowledge with MIDI settings. Yes Im using the Ampero Control Midi footswitch with 4 switches. It also has 2 EXT jacks for expresion/footswitches. I can set the switches to Single,Momentart,Hold and I forgot what the other is. I tried all options but none worked for what I was trying. I'll try what you said and see if that takes care of it. rd2rk
Sorry, I was on my way out and should have explained it better. When you're sending MIDI to two devices you need to specify which MIDI channel each listens on. The default BASE channel on all HX/Helix devices is Ch1. Set the ToneX to Ch2. On the Ampero (I also have one of those I use with my ToneX), when the message is intended for the HXSXL, send it on Ch1. For ToneX send on Ch2. So, Global Settings>MIDI/Tempo>MIDI BASE Channel = 1. You'll also need to set Global Settings>MIDI/Tempo>MIDI THRU = ON. You may also want to set Global Settings>MIDI/Tempo>MIDI PC Tx = OFF to prevent sending the default MIDI PC when you change presets. Though it shouldn't matter with ToneX set to Ch2 because the default PC# would be sent on Ch1, It's BEST PRACTICE to minimize extraneous MIDI traffic. Now as to the actual messages you're sending for MODE/PRESET etc. - in Global Settings>Footswitches there's settings for FS7 and FS8: "2 - FS7 Function Sets the function of Footswitch 7, but only when Global Settings > Preferences > “EXP/FS Tip” is set to “FS7.”* 3 - FS8 Function Sets the function of Footswitch 8, but only when Global Settings > Preferences > “EXP/FS Ring” is set to “FS8.” You'll need to check what's available on your HXSXL - the manual is either not clear or I missed it - but on my HXS that allows you to use the switches for BANK or PRESET or SNAPSHOT UP/DOWN or to scroll through the MODES. You can use MIDI commands to do those things, or you can use a MOMENTARY Footswitch. "For connecting an external footswitch to access the FS7 or FS8 functions, the use of a momentary (unlatched) type footswitch is recommended. Connect to the EXP1/2, FS 7/8 input while the device is powered off to avoid toggling the current FS 7/8 setting" You can connect a FS to the HXSXL EXP jack or, if that's in use by an EXP Pedal (I use mine for a MISSION SP1) you can connect the FS to the Ampero's EXP/CTL jacks and use MIDI messages triggered by the MOMENTARY FS. Depending upon what exactly you want to do, you may find using a pair of two-button switches connected to CTL1 and CTL2 a convenient way to expand the Ampero's switch complement from 4 to 8. Cheaper than chaining multiple Ampero's, but messier. If I read you correctly, you have a 2-button Momentary FS? Connect that to either the HXSXL or the Ampero with FS 7/8 configured to scroll <> the MODES, then use the Ampero Footswitches to emulate whichever HXSXL switches are required to do whatever. When I was testing all of this, I wound up just using Ampero FS1 to scroll the MODES one-way (HXSXL FS7 set to FS MODE>) and used Ampero FS2-4 to select the three options available in each MODE on my HXS. Since you'd need 4 switches for Snapshot Mode, using the 2-button switch for scrolling the MODES would work well for you and you could use the two switches to scroll the MODES bi-directionally. Anyhow, it's late, sleep now. Let me know how it works out.
NervusTwitch
THanks for all the info. I should have explained how I have it setup better. So I have the HX,Tonex,Ampero Control,Mission Engineering EXP( got a great deal on it) and 2 Ampero Dual CTRL switches. So the connections, I have the EXP into HX using TRS cable for the EXP and Switch function. Set for Exp things and the toe switch is functioning I use 4CM for Tonex into HX loop but also Midi OUT from HX to Tonex so that when I make a preset change on HX I cant also set FXLoop to change tone model on Tonex. I have the Ampero MIDI out into HX MIDI In only at the moment to control Snapshots now and most likely other stuff with bank switching. Then I have the 2 Ampero Dual CTRL's into the 2 EXP/CTRL jacks on the AMpero Midi. Set as Looper Functions. Already owned them so figured I'd use them. So far all this works except for the 2 problems I mention. One being I can not map any external MIDI device to trigger the HX Scroll Down switch. I can with all other HX switches but not that one(HX FS4 switch). I tried the Ampero,I also have a Nektar Pace MIDI and same. I even dug out the FCB1010 and same. The switch works on the HX fine. Now for the scroll up/dn midi commands I tried cc49(FS1) and cc52(FS4), cc49 works but no matter what cc52 will not. Two, The tonex Reverb Color getting triggered when using midi from Ampero. As of now Im not using any Tonex FX,just Tone Models. But who knows down the road plus I just got the HX so I dont even know at this point is something could be faulty. So I did try changing Tonex CH. to 2 but then the HX presets change doesnt change Tonex Tone Models which I do want to keep. I do understand the FS7 and FS8 being EXT devices, got that covered. I give this a go later and see how it goes. "If I read you correctly, you have a 2-button Momentary FS? Connect that to either the HXSXL or the Ampero with FS 7/8 configured to scroll <> the MODES, then use the Ampero Footswitches to emulate whichever HXSXL switches are required to do whatever.
