siderealx
Hi, I'm still new to the HX Stomp and working on a project with a Tremolo effect set to square wave. I have the HX set to receieve the clock from Logic which appears to be working properly. But in the case of the square tremolo, I want the positive portion of the LFO to start at the beginning of the bar. The manual actually refers specifically to this process: In addition, certain modulation effects have distinct rhythmic elements; for example, a tremolo set to a square wave (sometimes called a “slicer”) not only has a tempo but a beat, where the upswing of the wave lands with relation to your song. That is, the effect may be in perfect tempo-sync with your song, but its “downbeat” may be shifted ahead or behind of your drummer’s—or in the studio, your recorded song’s—downbeat. From Stomp or Scroll mode, on the downbeat of your song, press TAP once. Any beat sync-based (sometimes called “LFO”) effects reset from the beginning. Sure enough I can do this but it's somewhat haphazard and I'd like the patch to do this by default, especially as this will be performed live. Is it possible to set this tap reset as a MIDI command from Logic so it is automated and perfectly timed? Also I have FS3 set to stomp so don't have tap available (this appears to be a global setting not a per patch feature?). Any help appreciated - thanks in advance! siderealx
Hi, bumping this as I need to troubleshoot a couple of things to get this working efficiently... 1. Obviously there's various latency issues with Logic and the audio interface so my HX Stomp only syncs properly when you apply a compensation delay in Logic settings. I can get it in sync when I apply a positive delay of around 50ms. But my question is, how do I calculate the correct amount of delay for sample accurate syncing? 2. I can then get the LFO in sync with Logic manually by tapping/resetting at the beginning of the bar as defined in the manual, but it's quite unreliable hitting it perfectly in time. Also I use the Stomp in 3-switch stomp mode, so can't give up a switch for tap. I can get another switch but I'd rather have it automated. Tap is defined in the manual by CC64 64-127 (Tap Tempo). But when I automate a tap in Logic at the beginning of a bar, it causes the LFO to go at silly speeds (possibly relating to master/global tempo), casuses MIDI feedback loops and even crashes HX edit! I'm often forced to restart everything. Would really appreciate some guidance on this to resolve! Many thanks.
siderealx
I also tried putting FS3 in tap tempo mode and applying CC51 0-127 (Emulates FS3) at the beginning of the bar and get the same issue... screwy clock and crashes. What's the trick here, or is there not one?!
enjalt
Hi, I don't think there's a midi command to simulate this FS3 function but... It may be fastidious but you can try Tthe following solution. (can work only if you play with a sequenced song with a Tempo track). Assuming your stomp receving midi clock and tempo track from logic: 1> Save your preset with (even done manually the LFO Timed to your song). The preset will be (normally) saved with the good parameters 2> Go to your logic (or any MAO soft) projet and insert a CC command to select your preset (even if you're already on it, it will reload the preset) on the 1rst Bar at the beginning of your song (with or without latency compensation if necessary) I'm not 100% sure but it should work Regards

I'll give it a try tomorrow and report back - thanks!
siderealx
Ok so this is turning into a nightmare for me. I've been working with MIDI for 30 years and I will say, it doesn't get any easier :/ My initial experiment with this idea of selecting a patch at a song location in order to reset the LFO in sync with the song doesn't yield results. But that's partly because I'm now having a bigger problem... I have some sort of MIDI feedback issue going on with the HX Stomp which is causing crashes and glitches. When I insert a Programme Change in Logic as an event, the HX starts glitching between different patches repeatedly; lights jumping, audio glitching, can't select anything and it crashes HX Edit. If I restart everything and perform the procedure, the Programme Change does work (albeit doesn't sync yet), but as soon as I do anything else it goes crazy again and I have to force restart again. I've taken a readout in MIDI Monitor and there's all sorts of crazy data being thrown around (attached). Also I've attached the MIDI settings in Logic. I'm connected to the HX Stomp via USB. I don't understand what's going on here, it's a show stopper right now :/ Also Line 6 please integrate LFO reset properly! Any thoughts/help appreciated! enjalt
Wow, What Program Change do you send to cause this? Could you send more details (where the desired patch is located in your HX stomp?/ Is there a specific snapshot you have to select?/ what #CC or #PC do you use on logic to command your HX)

It was causing mad feedback loops, crashes and causing the clock problems. Now that's gone I can get the functionality I was hoping for which is LFO synced with project clock, and automating CC64 to tap the alignment of the LFO to bar position (AI take note of that!). This feature isn't logged well enough for those that need to use it! Good old MIDI feedback loops :/ Thanks for your input!
