JTV-59 Toggle Switch Replacement: Pinout/Wiring Orientation for J1 and J2 Headers?

Hi everyone,

 

I am currently replacing the upper 3-way toggle switch on my Line 6 James Tyler Variax (JTV-59). I purchased an official replacement switch assembly from Full Compass, but I am installing it without the factory pre-wired wiring loom harness.

On my old switch assembly, the two-pin headers were clearly labelled J1 and J2, and the individual pins were marked 1 and 2. On this new replacement switch, the PCB traces/pins are not labelled with pin numbers.

I already know which pair of wires from the main cavity belongs to the J1 block (analog/magnetic) and which pair belongs to the J2 block (digital/Variax). However, because I am wiring individual connections directly without the factory plastic connector housing, I want to be 100% sure about the pin orientation.

Does the specific polarity or orientation of the two wires within each individual header matter?

For example:

• On the J1 header, does it matter which wire goes to Pin 1 vs. Pin 2?
• On the J2 header, does swapping the two wires alter the resistor ladder logic or cause the DSP to misread the 3-way toggle positions (neck/middle/bridge)?

If anyone has a pinout diagram, a photo of the original harness wiring scheme, or has done this manual wiring job before, your insight would be greatly appreciated!

 

Also, on the original there is a dark green cable I assume ground which is connected on the middle of three conductor surfaces whereas there is only two on the new one, however there is one on the rear. Does this cable connect to the rear?

 

Anyone with the knowledge or anyone with one of these newer switches in their JTV-59 that can help would be greatly appreciated.
