Barista_Bum
I was playing this morning and the JTV-69 suddenly switched to dropped d. Tuning wheel is set to standard. Doesn't matter what the model / pickup selection is. Same thing through VDI, 1/4" with & without POD X3Live, battery, XPS, whatever. Reflashed/upgraded all firmware and drivers, but no change. Anybody seen this before? P.S. Everything sounds a-ok when I use the magnetic pups. Also, Workbench detuning doesn't seem allow me to raise up the affected string. clay-man
When I opened up my Variax to fix something, it was having problems with the model select knob and essentially reading 1 bank permanently due to a grounding problem with the coffin. I fixed this by cleaning some stuff up. I assume something in the electronics is having a signal or grounding issue with the tuning knob like my case. I'm not really sure about a solution though. Have you tried going into workbench and changing the drop D slot to a different tuning?
Barista_Bum
Thanks for the reply, Clay. I may crack her open to see what things look like in there. Workbench HD tuning doesn't seem to have any affect on the problem, which I think is doubly weird. The tuning wheel does change things, and the open tunings are correct, but all of the standard-based tunings (e.g., Down 1/2 & Down 1) are down a step on string one relative to where they should be for the selected tuning. You mentioned having some difficulty with the model select knob; what was that? I've recently had to press it several times to get it to toggle. Perhaps the two problems are related. Charlie_Watt
Probably not related. The model select knob problem is widespread. It can bottom out before switching. The cure is to put a small shim in the hole so that the shaft doesn't go in all the way. Easy fix.

Well, I'm sure the JTVs aren't assembled like my 600, but mine has a coffin, and when that is grounding incorrectly, it would override the model knob and be stuck on 1 model bank. Charlie_Watt
No Coffin in the JTV69.
clay-man
No Coffin in the JTV69. Which is what makes me question what would interrupt the signal like that. The coffin problem was from short circuiting things right?
