rssouthw
I currently have an old X2 XDS-Plus, which I *LOVE* Never a glitch, never ANY interference, I can plug/unplug/power off the guitar end with NO problem. I would love to find some IEM equivalent, but I've never been successful finding a digital IEM like the X2 (and now the G50 and friends). So, my question: Has anyone turned the G50 (or one of it's friends) into a IEM?And why hasn't Line 6 ever thought to create something like this?If you know of a product from another company, I'd love to get URL's .... :) Thanks in advance..... sdevino
You mean literally? The G50 receiver would burn a battery down very quickly. We are always looking at possible applications. There is a long thread over on our idea scale site http://line6.ideascale.com where you can add your vote. IEM is one of the most popular requests there. Sorry I am not answering your question directly but we cannot talk about future product development, but we do pay close attention to the ideas submitted and viewpoints expressed on IdeaScale. droesen
So, my question: Has anyone turned the G50 (or one of it's friends) into a IEM? And why hasn't Line 6 ever thought to create something like this? I'm pretty sure every wireless vendor out there "thinks" about doing wireless digital IEM. The problem is to get latency down to acceptable level - a problem you virtually don't have with analog wireless systems. This is largely why the wireless digital IEM market is... "underdeveloped". :-) I've read somewhere about the L6 stuff having a latency in the range of 2,5ms. Works for me in guitar usage, but is already a lot when combined with digital mixers etc... you're already in the latency range where you get ugly comb filtering effects (combination of body sound and IEM headphone sound for singers) or even get problems playing tight because IEM is too delayed. Think of 2,5ms mic/guitar wireless, plus 2-3ms for digital mixer, plus 2,5ms for wireless IEM... and you are already on your way out of the worst comb filtering area but getting into noticable delay territory. Looking at the industry, it seems that "fixing" the latency problem of digital wireless systems is non-trivial. I for one would certainly love to see an affordable ultra low latency digital wireless IEM system. And yes, it's almost christmas time again. :-)
