80007211 POD bricked after trying to update.

Well this is a new record. It's bricked. I can't believe it. I had this for only 2 weeks and I can't use it anymore. That's insane. Please help. I can't deal with this.

HD Edit was giving me a lot of flack about presets being reset so I thought I could fix it by reflashing the POD. Well it made it even worse. I can't use it at all now.

What should I do? It just says UPDATE FLASH on the screen. I tried over and over to reinstall flash and it does nothing.

Edit: I tried multiple times, different USB cables, different ports, and even another computer.

Tried to save firmware files and update. Still the same error.

Sometimes the POD says Updating Firmware, but after 2 seconds it errors out and restarts.

Computer can pick up that it's a POD, and even my DAW can still detect it.

Monkey reports Firmware: 2.32

I think your going to need to start your Pod in safe mode to reinstall the firmware. Powering up while holding the right nav button down. Then Monkey should pick it back up. You need to do a factory reset after any update by restarting the pod while holding the left nav button down and after that you need to recalibrate the on board pedal. Check out the "knowledge base".

When ever I re-flash or update mine I never save my old patches I start fresh in case I have a corrupt patch in there somewhere.

consider also that some of the USB ports of your computer could be instead defective, especially if it is old.. I assure you it happens..

and when some ports are malfunctioning can cause problems (even serius ones) to the connected equipment..

It's not, if I move the usb around in the POD it will disconnect the connection. This isn't good when trying to use the POD as an interface. Disconnecting the POD when using it with my DAW locks up my whole computer. I don't need the POD randomly disconnecting when I try to stomp on the buttons or use the wah.

I've read that replacing the USB port is more expensive than what people would assume, but if it costs less than 300 then I'm willing to send it in someday. As of now, I'm going to try to make my usb cable more secure in the POD. I really hate type b ports, they're so flimsy.

out of curiosity

and..

I do have a solder kit and a 2 piece USB type b replacement ports being mailed to me because  the USB port on my keyboard broke, hence why I said I really had type b usb ports, they're really not very durable.

Seems a bit scary to try to fix the POD though. I can try if it starts acting up again, but for now, I put some stuff on the USB cable so it won't wiggle around in the socket and it's doing fine so far.

So I think I'm going to go through with the USB port swap when I get my soldering iron. The plastic piece was apparently broken, and I already ended the return request and I don't think I can do anything about that anymore. Right now it's super glued back in and I stretched the prongs out to contact the USB cable better, it works fine but reflashing sometimes gives me errors and requires me switching USB ports on my computer and restarting monkey.

If anyone can help me with documentation about disassembling a HD500 then please post.

I've heard that some people need to replace the chip. Do I need to? The USB works fine, just needs replacing as it's flimsy. Moving the cable in the port doesn't cause any disconnects or anything, but I'd rather just not worry about it anymore.

Hey Clay,

I would only replace the part you know is bad.  No point in poking a hot iron at things that are fine :)

Taking the HD apart? Never did an HD but if it is anything like an X3L it should be straight forward. Take photos, go slow and don't force anything. Knobs, screws etc, all have been logically screwed in there. Use little bins labeled "chasis, front, back , etc" as there were a lot and it will help in reassembly.

That would be the time to address any switch issues too.

Everything is top shape but that USB port. Thanks for the reply, I know these type of topics kinda scare people away cause they don't want to give a wrong answer to something big like this.

The usb thing just makes flashing the POD incredibly scary to do because I run into errors from time to time until switching the port or restarting monkey. Everything else works like a charm, but I'd also rather not wait until the plastic part falls out again when the super glue gives out.

Hopefully I won't run into the ribbon cable problem like the guy in the video, just want to disassemble without too much trouble.
