cometphoton
My hardware config is: Win 11 Pc, Helix LT 3.15.0, Presonus FireStudio Project and the Daw is Cakewalk Sonar. The problem is connecting both Presonus and Helix drivers at the same time. When I config Sonar's Audio preferences and have helix connected I can't connect Presonus FireStudio as Input or output drivers or vise versa when Presonus drivers are picked I can't connect Helix drivers. So I can't record helix and any personus inputs at the same time. When Helix is connected I can record helix and reamp with great success. Extremely wonderful but It would be nice to use both at the same time. I did download the PC audio drivers from Line 6 and have them installed. Please send me comments and thanks for you're time Edited May 30, 2022 by cometphoton Had to add Win 11 so everyone understand its a PC
silverhead
You mention a PC so I assume you mean a Windows machine, not Mac. This is normal behaviour on Windows that is a direct result of the ASIO protocol that is used by the Line 6 (and probably Presonus) drivers. It demands that the same audio device be used as both the audio input and output devices, and that only one such device is recognized by a DAW. You can use either the Helix or Presonus device as your interface, but not both simultaneously. I understand it’s different on Mac where an aggregate device can be used. cometphoton
Wow that is a bummer.
silverhead
How many inputs do you need to record simultaneously? Perhaps there’s a Helix preset and physical configuration that will support it.
cometphoton
I just found this that points to the same answer. Double bummer. https://forums.presonus.com/viewtopic.php?t=20923&p=114100 and I just found this but haven't gave it a riffle yet. https://www.sweetwater.com/sweetcare/articles/aggregate-audio-devices-and-drivers-for-pc-and-mac/
cometphoton
To answer your question about how many channels do I need. Well two should do it. Can I use the Sends/Returns as I/O for other inputs to the daw.
silverhead
Yes. You can select the physical input to be used for each Input block in your Helix preset, and you can select the USB channel output in the Output block. Check the Templates setlist in your Helix. You might find useful examples there to copy and tweak.
cometphoton
Thanks, I will try to work with helix first. I will keep you posted on my progress
silverhead
… and quite separate from your question, you might be interested to know that you can also simultaneously record the dry (unprocessed) inputs from your Helix to your DAW for post-processing using plugins like Helix Native. silverhead
You might also find the chapter called USB Audio in the Helix manual helpful.

FWIW... I just connect my Helix to my primary audio device via XLR. Some get all worked up about that needing to do another AD/DA conversion, I DON'T! The Presonus preamps are good... they will add a pleasant & subtle flavor to the tone - but nothing drastic enough that you will need to alter anything. I embrace the flavors a preamp can add, they have always been part of the secret sauce nobody can figure out when replicating what they hear on recordings. The presonus has enough inputs/outputs that re-amping is not an issue.
cometphoton
I have a 2 channel solution using helix as the IO for two Instrument inputs. This is the process In Helix edit you pick Templates in setlist and use Guitar/mic template. Then configured the mic input path for (hard points on the helix) Return 1/2 ( connect your instruments to return 1/2 ) Then configure the output path in helix edit to USB 3/4 Back to the DAW track, use USB 3/4 as the input. Turn on daw track input echo and you will hear and be able to record Helix I/O Mapping works. Thanks for the tip
