Thanks. I'll go back and reread the 4 cable method... "What he's talking about bypasses the preamp and only uses the solid state power amp. It works. Use the direct output mode." Bypasses the preamp in the JC120...(?) right so the HD500 is the preamp based on this statement? It looked like the 4 cable method used the amps preamp and then used the HD500 for effects in the loop.... I want the modeling as well... so then the issue is if you come into the front of the amp... and then use the 500 to model an amp in the loop its preamp on top of preamp... I was experimenting last night putting the 500 direct to the amps FX return... it definitely sounds better... when bypassing the amps preamp.... but that gets back to the original question... if it sounds better going direct to the loop... why spend the bucks on a better amp if I'm not going to use the new amps preamp...? I'm going to experiment tonight with the 4 cable method... Thanks...

Right but by doing that ... you aren't using the preamp in the JC120.... I had to check... Thats the Roland correct? Jazz Chorus Amp... Solid State? I found this on a forum... "You want crystal clear sound? This is your amp. It can get ridiculously loud if needed. If you look at most amp modelers they have the JC-120 included for clean sounds. This is a solid state amp so you won't get the warm, honky sound of a tube amp but it is surprisingly warm for a solid state amp. I have found, however that if I use my visualsound Jekyll & Hyde pedal I can get pretty killer distortion warmth and depth. It is a great backend for a Line 6 POD. It also makes a great acoustic amp too." It might be a different issue ... tube amp vs solid state... Maybe with a solid state amp it doesn't matter that the POD becomes the preamp as its digital...? Maybe what I was reading was related to tube amps only... not solid state... Thanks...

I have a HD500 and a Blackstar HT-5.... I've been looking at amps for awhile as an upgrade... Some of the things that I have read are.... "If you plug a HD500 into the front of an amp it can be muddy as its preamp on top of preamp" "If you plug a HD500 in the loop but still run you guitar into the amp front.. same thing preamp on top of preamp" "If you plug the HD500 into the FX return and plug the guitar into the HD500 its not preamp on top of preamp ... but you are bypassing the amps .. preamp... So why drop big bucks on an amp if you aren't going to use its preamp... That's what you bought it for..." "You have to use FRFR speakers with a modeler, won't sound right into a regular amp" So I guess my question is.... Why drop the cash on an amp upgrade (head) if in order to get the best sound with the HD500 you can't use the new amps preamp....? Maybe stick the HD500 in the new amps loop and have the first patch on the HD500 with no preamp selected. This way the new amp can be used for whatever it can do... distortion etc... and then when I want a amp model .. just put it on the clean channel.. and hit a different patch on the 500 engaging a model.. If I want to go back to the main amp .. just hit the first patch on the 500 removing any preamp selections.... It would still be preamp on top of preamp but maybe using the clean channel it wouldn't muddy the sound...? Any thoughts? This is not about the DT amps... I'm not talking about them... just other amps in the pricier ranges.... Thanks, Bob

Thats about what I would expect... L6 sells equipment not guitar knowledge.... http://truefire.com/ When I'm on Truefire they can't tell me how to set up a HD500.... but if I have a question on the Dorian mode ... no problem... Its like going to a Home Depot on Friday night trying to get lade... and then on Saturday going to the hot club looking to buy Scotts Step 4 fertilizer!

Thanks. Yeah, I'm looking at either the DT25 or a Mesa 5:25Express Plus. The Mesa is a few hundred bucks more. What I'm wrestling with is using it at low volumes.... I wish the DT25 had a 5 watt mode that didn't model the low volume settings but just sent the HD500 signal through the 5 watt path.... Indirectly with the Mesa depending on what power mode you select 5 15 or 25 watts the amp changes from class a to class ab... so if you know an amp model is modeled after a certain circuit... you could change power modes to accommodate that... but its a manual process.. and you would have to remember what each modeled amp went with.... too much too remember.... For some reason I have a bug up my a$$ about the low volume being a modeled sound.. and not coming from the heat of the tube.... I guess I could get an attenuator and just use it in full power mode....

How about fixing the HD EDIT so it will fill the whole screen,,,,,

On the HDPRO page it mentions that the HDPRO would be perfect with the DT50.... but no mention of the DT25.... Is the author just saying that with the HDPRO they are assuming the need for more power... or is there another issue with the DT25 and the PRO combination? Thanks.... Bob

Right. So the question is ... should the gain and EQ come first before the amp model.... or connect first to the 500 to create the amp model and then connect to the preamp for the gain and EQ... I know the 500 is its own preamp... but I have an AMT Tube preamp that I want to use in lieu of the preamp function in the 500....

My question is down to .... should the creation of the amp model come before or after the device that creates the gain.... In a regular amp its the the preamp circuit that gives the character and the gain to the sound.... In my case its 2 devices ... the HD500 for the amp model ... and the preamp pedal to establish the gain... The gain on the HD500 is turned down to 0... I just want the amp model....out of the 500....

Hi, I want to use the HD500 just for amp modeling as I have several separate pedals for other functions... I want to use the HD500 in the effects loop and bypass my amps preamp... (Blackstar HT-5) I'm looking at separate tube preamp type pedals... AMT SS-11 etc to act as the preamp.... If I have the HD500s gain functions turned off or down... and I'm only using the 500 as an amp modeler... to get the base amp tone and the rest I will do with pedals... eq, compression etc.... ... My question is... Do you think the HD500 should go after or before the preamp pedal? In other words ... Do I want to create the base amp tone .. then run it through the preamp pedal for the gain... ?? Or ... do I want to go thru the preamp pedal ... establish the gain .. and then create the amp base tone by going through the HD500 acting as a modeler only? I'm not going through the front of the amp... not using the 4 ch method.. its just... guitar... pedal preamp (for gain and EQ) ... HD500 for amp model.... effects loop return OR... guitar... HD500 (to establish amp model) then to the pedal preamp for gain and EQ... to effects loop return... ??? Thanks...

Thank You! Perfect! So just to recap ... If I am boosting 300hz and 1500 hz... (just an example) I need 2 parametric EQs and can do the boosting (or cutting) with the Freq ... and just leave the HIGH and LOW ... alone... That answers my question...
-
Gain - Boost or cut in db Q - width of the boost or cut Freq - what frequency to boost or cut Highs ? Lows ? I'm not clear on the function of the Highs and Lows parameters... Can somebody explain how they differ from the Freq parameter? If I want to boost 300 hz and also 1500 hz... can I do that with one instance of the Parametric EQ? or do I need 2.. one for the lows and one for the highs...? Extra Credit: Can somebody explain the Parametric EQ LOW and Parametric EQ HIGH graphs that are in Meambos Guide? Obviously they refer back to the Highs and Lows parameter in the EQ .... How does that differ from Freq? Thanks...
