If that were true, I would own something else. What I'm saying is that I would personally like to see them do more in a particular area. I know I'm not alone in this.
-
Yup, you're right. I was defending myself and I shouldn't have said that. I take it back.

Pi, "Suppression of opposition" is one of the hallmarks of fascism, and part of the actual definition. I stated my opinion in an effort to start a conversation. I expected to have most of you disagree with me, as you have in the past (yes, rd2rk, I have said this in the past), but I am still somewhat surprised that some of you will never challenge the way Line 6 does anything. I have owned Apple products for years, and I think they have absolutely dropped the ball many times. In this case, I personally think Line 6 hasn't done enough in this particular realm. Do I think Helix is an awesome product? Yes. Otherwise, I'd own a Fractal or a Kemper. I don't want to do that. I would like THIS product to be the best it can. But if nobody ever says: "Hey guys, why aren't you doing X, Y or Z..." then why have a forum in the first place? And simply calling someone a "Jerk" or "troll" simply allows you to dismiss out of hand what they are trying to say.

Dear Line 6, I would like to offer my sincere and profound apologies for having strayed from the reservation and allowing a negative thought into my head. Your otherwise perfect product should in no way ever be questioned and/or criticized for I know that the punishment for said breech of fanboy etiquette is swift and just. In the future, I promise to keep any such doubts about your supremacy in the world of amp modeling, product marketing, and most importantly research and development strictly to myself. Sincerely and humbly, tenorkeith p.s. kumbaya

Nope. Because I stated my opinion and, right on cue, was basically told to sit down and shut up. I'm not surprised at all, but instead of dealing with the content of the question/statement there are the usual suspects who can't stand the thought of someone disagreeing with them.
-
In a sane world, there would be nothing "provocative" about this post. But some of you would rather shut down the conversation with ad-hominum attacks. That's what fascists do.

It's good to see that all opinions are welcome here....not so much.

What, on Earth, is "entitled" about using what Line 6 said about their own personnel as a guide for expectations???
-
Spikey, why is it that whenever this topic comes up, your initial response is always "They don't owe you anything!"? As gear goes, this is a bigger investment than most, and yes I do expect an extra level of support. I'm not a programmer, I'm a funeral director and a music teacher. I don't have all day to study tech manuals as some of you clearly do. But what I DO see is that some companies find the time and manpower to update their products rather frequently, INCLUDING new content. And with the resources of Yamaha behind it, Line 6 should have no problem in this department. If I recall, I seem to remember Line 6 saying that they have at least one dedicated programmer working on amps and effects, and that it takes approximately one month to produce an amp. If this is true, and maybe it isn't, then one could assume that an interval of six months would produce something on the order of six items, whether amps or effects. Maybe someone at Line 6 can chime in and correct me if this is wrong. In any event, I don't think that it's unreasonable to take something Line 6 said and use it as a loose expectation of things to come. And if your flames are meant to squelch criticism, it is working. I have been privately messaged by several people on this forum who say they have similar sentiments, but are too afraid to voice them for fear of being attacked. That's sad.

rd2rk, thank you for proving my point. That's exactly the kind of response I was expecting, proving that fanboys have extremely thin skin. Any criticism of their beloved company or product results in a reflexive shriek. So what you're telling me is that Line 6 is incapable of walking and chewing gum at the same time? They can't fix bugs and add amps simultaneously? As I said before, I love my Helix, but I'm not afraid to criticize when I feel it is warranted. The fact that your response is to marginalize anyone who dares to dissent from the herd is exactly why Line 6 will never get as much honesty as brown-nosing in this place.

Oh, Crusinon, you corporate guy, you! Maybe you failed to read the part where I said I'd be happy to pay for it, if that helps. Thanks for playing. :)
-
Really, Line 6??? It's been how long since your last update and you couldn't find the time for at least ONE new amp or effect? Oh, but the tuner's nice. Sheesh! p.s. Everyone else, please spare me the BS about we should be happy with whatever we get. Frankly, I'd pay extra for new amps if that will motivate you guys. You're so involved with all the new product cross-compatibility issues that you've forgotten why we came here in the first place. I still love my Helix, but waiting for the crumbs to fall is getting old.

Just wondering, now that you've got them side-by-side so to speak, if there is a massive difference in quality when comparing similar models. Are we into hair-splitting territory, or is it bigger than that?
-
Yeah, the one I was thinking of when I wrote the question was the Dual Rectifier. I've owned several of them, and can't for the life of me get the Helix to sound much like one. Maybe I'm doing something wrong.
-
Hey guys, this is directed at the folks here from Line 6 such as Digital Igloo, etc... Now that Helix is a fairly mature platform, I was wondering if you guys ever go back and re-visit the earlier models and make adjustments? It just makes sense to me that as the newer models get better, some of the older ones might get looked at again. Just wondering...Thanks!

Hey everyone. I just wanted to update you on the progress of this repair. I am happy to report that line 6 was very responsive, got me a shipping label, repaired and returned my Helix to me, all in Just over a week! Suffice to say that I am very impressed with line 6's Service department. And also, a great big shout out to Pete at line 6, Who guided me through the process every step of the way. It's nice to see that some companies actually do give a damn about their customers! Thank you!!!

Hey Spikey, I would tend to agree with you if not for the fact that the earlier firmware version is also doing it now. And since it is consistently doing it only after the unit is warmed up makes me suspect that there might be a bad solder joint in there somewhere. But you're right, the timing is a little suspicious.
-
@musiclaw, thank you for letting me know about that warranty development. I feel much better now! I've had my Helix since February of last year and until now, have not had any issues. It is surreal to watch the screen do that. Very unsettling.
-
Thank you, phil_m. I have opened a ticket and will let you guys know how well they respond. This will be my first time having to deal with Line 6 support. I'm hopeful. :)

OK, so here's where I am with this. I went back to the earlier version of the firmware, and rebooted it and it still did the same thing. Then I reinstalled the 2.21 firmware, and again, that scribble window is glitching like crazy. I did notice however that it wasn't doing it after it had been off overnight. But after it had been on for about 15 minutes or so, it started doing it again. So my thought is that it is hardware related, and it has to do with the heat of the Helix somehow once it warms up. It's really disappointing, since I haven't really used the unit that much and it has never even been out of my house. Now that I finally have time in my crazy schedule to sit down and work with the Helix, I'm really digging it (except for this issue, of course). When I first got the Helix, I thought that I had avoided some of the problems the early adopters were having. But I guess some things just creep up a little bit later than others. I hope that Line 6 can help me take care of this problem.

Sorry, I meant 2.21. And I did do the 9 & 10 button thing. I will try the update again, and report back later. Thanks!

Hello all. I just upgraded my Helix firmware to 2.11 last night. Now, today I am experiencing a glitch in one of my scribble strip windows. It is constantly scrolling and breaking up the text no matter what I do or which buttons I push. Has anyone else experienced a problem like this after upgrading firmware, or is this a hardware thing? Thanks in advance for your help!

Yeah, I think the regular "2204" is supposed to be the original 800. But again, I'll say that side by side, they really did nail the sound of the real thing, if not all the controls.

Thanks, Guitarzman! That's a very cool thread!
