awesome, thank you! I wouldn't go Helix, I have had enough bad experiences with ampsims live. -

I tested the cable but maybe I should try a different type of cable? -
HX Effects output to PA System using Amp
Jasonbrianmerrill replied to Jasonbrianmerrill's topic in Helix
So this would have the drive/delay/comp coming through the amp as well as the reverb and univibe hitting the amp (after the fx loops) and then have all of it plus a cab impulse sent to the PA? -
Is there a way to customize the parameters we see for certain effects? Let's say you have six parameters, but when you select an effect, you only have the three up top to mess with. Is there a way to change which three show up? Globally? or just by preset?

HX effects amp switching incompatible with Peavey Classic 30
Jasonbrianmerrill replied to Jasonbrianmerrill's topic in Helix
Still can't quite get it to work... not sure how to best troubleshoot this... I hear a pop when i hit the switch, but no change. The Classic 30 has the channel switch depressed, which is what it needs to switch with a regular switcher. -

HX Effects Elephant Man model replacement?
Jasonbrianmerrill replied to Jasonbrianmerrill's topic in Helix
Thank you!!! I will try that. -
FYI, I ditched the Variax and the Pod500x and stopped breaking strings. Now I have a fender strat with a peavey classic 30, I recently just put an HX effects between them, let's see how it goes :) I'll always give you a chance, Line 6 ;)

Is it possible to have an FX loop AND send the preamp signal mixed with a cab impulse to a PA? So, for instance - you have a drive, a delay, and a comp going into the front. Next, you have an fx loop which has a reverb and a univibe on it. After that, you take the sound and send it to a PA with a cab impulse? Or is it easier just to mic it ;)

...for the Memory Man, I assume. I am trying to figure out if I want to get rid of my Memory Boy. The Elephant Man sounds GREAT! However, the Memory boy and actually the Memory man have some features that I'm not sure exist in the Elephant Man. For instance, there is a way to change the subdivision of the notes on the Boy and the Man, so it interprets your taps a certain way, etc - you can get triplets, etc.... Is there a way to make that happen with the HX effects? What about the "hold on the tap tempo to make the feedback ramp up" trick? I guess that would be impossible without an expression pedal/switch, no? Might make me hold on to my memory boy, or get a memory man T-550.

that response tells me you've never tried to palm mute on a variax.. unrelated, I realize.

let me make one important post about my viewpoint, if it matters: I think modelers are the way to go for the future. It's amazing how great they sound, and for recordings, it's a no brainer. Regular amps are stupid anymore. However, for live, I found guitar/amp emulations to be bad for my playing style. I mean, this is a company who has a guitar that can't palm mute.... .... ....
-
I understand, perhaps your playing style is different. Here's my personal anecdote: Variax + Pod + my personal playing style = broken strings constantly. twice per gig sometimes Variax + Amp + my personal playing style = less broken strings Real guitar + Amp + my personal playing style = hardly any broken strings. Guitar (?) + Pod + your personal playing style = hardly any broken strings, I presume. What can I say? It's the only explanation that makes sense. I'm not positing it as a scientific theory or anything. I wish I could actually use my variax. Don't trust it anymore. Variax and Pod both have small bits of latency. gigging every week, I need to depend on an instrument and amp... couldn't deal with line 6 anymore.
-
Weird, I don't have to "dial" in a good sound on an amp. It just takes too much time. I love amp sim plugins. Hate the Pod. Live? I can't use anything but an amp anymore. And the delay/lack of volume in monitoring is likely the culprit for broken strings. amps ftw
-
as it turns out, I sold the thing. And I'm also selling my variax. It was cool while it lasted, but broken strings from using an amp sim and unrealistic emulations really didn't do it for me. Line 6 is a great company and do some great things, but I just couldn't deal with it for gigging weekly.

Hey everyone, bit of a problem with a Line 6 Variax JTV. The intonation never felt right. Ever. Took it to 3 different guitar people. One lowered the frets for me, helped because when I would press down on the strings it would nearly go out of tune the frets were so high. Anyway, the intonation needed work and I noticed I really had to adjust the high E string. Well, I did so much that I loosened it TOO much and the screw popped out while i was playing. Found the screw, lost the washer and the spring. Definitely need to replace those. Anyway, I only noticed this because my High E String stopped responding. Apparently the pickup wouldn't respond if the saddle was too far away. Anyone ever have this? The string seems fine now, responding, but if I go to far one way or the other, it won't. Anyway, I have it screwed in there. What's the problem with having JUST the screw? I'm going to my tech tomorrow to see if we can finagle something. Where can I order new parts for this thing? Should I buy a new pickup? Any help is appreciated.

Either you read that wrong or I stated it too simply... I Dont buy it. I seriously don't think it sucks.... that's the only opinion im getting from people though. I've been a pod user since 2005.
