  1. Also, yes, I have tried switching the cables so that the Rhythm/Lead mode jack is on "2 (Ring)" and the equalizer is on "1 (Tip)". The issue persists.
  2. 4CM with Mesa Boogie .50 Caliber+, which has 2 footswitch jacks, one to switch between Rhythm and Lead modes, and one to enable or disable the 5-band equalizer. I have a 1/4" TRS male to 2 x 1/4" TS female adapter plugged into the EXP PEDAL 2 / EXT AMP jack, and two 1/4" guitar cables plugged into the adapter, one going to the Rhythm/Lead mode jack, the other to the equalizer jack. In Global Settings > Preferences I have the "EXP 2/EXT AMP" option set to "EXT AMP Out". I have a Send/Return block in Path 1A (FX Loop 1), and in Command Center I have two footswitches assigned to the two EXT AMP options (FS11 for "1 (Tip)", FS10 for "2 (Ring)"). The switching for the Rhythm/Lead modes works fine, but it doesn't fully disable the equalizer when it's turned off. When the footswitch is dimmed, the equalizer sliders still affect the sound, although less so when the footswitch is lit. Yes, the 3-way rocker switch on the amp is set to the middle position. Yes, I have tested the equalizer both by using the 3-way rocker switch and by using a number of different standard footswitches. I have owned this amp for about 15 years and have used the equalizer footswitch extensively. Everything is set up correctly. Has anyone else experienced issues using the exterior switching with the LT? Is mine not functioning properly?
  3. Sorry, that's not 4CM. 4CM puts the preamp of the amp in the effects loop of the multi-fx.
  4. I would just get a cheap reamp box anyway. They're handy. Most players have DI boxes kicking around even when they don't have a specific use for them because they're just handy to have when you need one, and a reamp box is just the opposite of a DI box. Everyone should have one, AFAIC. I didn't buy mine to be part of my guitar setup, it was just something I tried out and it worked out fabulously. https://artproaudio.com/product/dual-rdb/ This is the one I got. There are much better reamp boxes but for 4CM I don't think you need to go crazy.
  5. I use a 2-channel reamp box for both the send to my amp's front panel input and the output to my amp's effects return. Keep in mind that "line level" and "instrument level" actually have less to do with voltage than they do impedance, and what a reamp box does is convert a low-impedance line level signal to a high-impedance instrument level signal. I don't know if the Line/ Instrument settings on the Helix units do anything to impedance, or what impedance my amp's front panel input and effects return expect; what i do know is that neither setting gives me comparable amounts of gain to plugging straight into the amp, and neither setting stops the "feedback/oscillation" you're talking about. My reamp box solves both problems.
  6. New LT owner. Using 4CM with my Mesa Boogie .50 Caliber+. A couple questions: 1. Do I have to have the Ext Amp assigned to a footswitch to have it respond when changing snapshots? It seems entirely possible that channel switching could be done entirely via snapshots and there would be no need to have it be assigned to a footswitch. I don't fully understand Instant Command Center commands yet; maybe there's a solution there? 2. Is it possible to "Snapshot Bypass" the Ext Amp function the same way effects blocks can be? I think it's handy to have a mix of blocks that are bypassed via snapshots and blocks that ignore snapshots (and can be assigned to their own footswitches), and I can envision situations where I might want the Ext Amp function to also ignore snapshots and be controlled independently via footswitch. Thanks in advance for any advice.
  7. hi there... i'm a long time X3L user... having a curious issue... i use my X3L with my Mesa/Boogie .50 Caliber Plus using the 4-cable method... GUITAR > X3L GUITAR INPUT X3L FX SEND > BOOGIE FRONT PANEL INPUT BOOGIE FX SEND > X3L FX RETURN X3L LIVE OUTPUT > BOOGIE FX RETURN actually i have a channel strip in there to deal with level issues (X3L FX SEND is line level, BOOGIE expects instrument level, X3L LOOP block SEND LEVEL control doesn't turn down inherent D/A conversion [or otherwise] noise, which wouldn't be an issue EXCEPT when feeding into something that provides incredible amounts of gain, ie. the preamp of a BOOGIE, so i use the preamp section of an ART Pro Channel to reduce the level feeding into the front panel of the BOOGIE to be somewhat consistent with plugging a guitar into it direct... works much better than a line level shifter, and i have the option of adding even MORE gain to the BOOGIE if i so desire)... and since the Pro Channel is already there, i use its compressor section to even out the volume when i turn my guitar down to clean the tone up... it's more like this: GUITAR > X3L GUITAR INPUT X3L FX SEND > PRO CHANNEL 1/4" INPUT PRO CHANNEL PREAMP OUT > BOOGIE FRONT PANEL INPUT BOOGIE FX SEND > PRO CHANNEL COMPRESSOR INPUT PRO CHANNEL COMPRESSOR OUTPUT > X3L FX RETURN X3L LIVE OUTPUT > BOOGIE FX RETURN anyway, this is not the issue, just putting it down there for full disclosure... so, a few weeks ago my buddy came and took his PA system back... i'm not currently playing guitar in a full band, i only jam with my drummer friend once in a while, but it's nice to have a mic to be able to sing and at least communicate... i don't really use the TONE2 feature all that much in that scenario (it's great for cover bands, but for jamming i really only have the one patch going) so i figured that i would just plug a mic into the X3L, set TONE2 input to MIC, and send both tones to the LIVE OUTPUT that feeds the FX RETURN of my amp... and, yes, it works... i say "hello ladies" into the mic, and "hello ladies" comes out of my amp... fine... the only issue is, on my TONE1 guitar patch, i have a VERB block set to be controlled by the COMP switch... when i switch it on and sing into the mic, there is reverb when i say "hello ladies"... there is no VERB block on TONE2 (the COMP switch only turns the VERB block on the TONE currently selected, which is always TONE1, even when i'm using DUAL TONE)... upon further investigation, i'm finding that this only happens when i have the LOOP block on TONE1... since i'm using the 4 cable method, the LOOP block is always on for TONE1... i thought about it for a bit, and figured that maybe, even though the LOOP block is off for TONE2 (as one can only use the LOOP block on one TONE), maybe the TONE2 signal was still being sent through the loop, but only coming back on TONE1... i was correct... well, i thought, that's weird, but all i should have to do is turn down either the SEND LEVEL or MIX control on the inactivated LOOP block on TONE2, and that should solve it... but, what i'm finding is that modifying a control on the LOOP block on either TONE affects the same modification to the LOOP block on the other TONE (ie. turn MIX control to 0% on TONE2 LOOP block, TONE1 LOOP block MIX control is also set to 0%)... i guess i can see applications for the TONE2 signal being sent into FX LOOP along with the TONE1 signal, i guess, if you're using it only for guitar, but this seems like something that should be user-selectable or something... is this phenomenon consistent with the intended design of the unit or am i experiencing something unexpected? thank you...
  8. :O Wowzers... they even have variax coffin enclosures and boards... well this is a game changer!! Thanks!!
  9. Anybody out there have one or both of the switch boards or a non-functioning x3 live? I'm a notorious tinkerer and I had the idea that I could customize the footswitch assignments (i know, get an HD... this is more fun though!!), but it involves permanently damaging the printed circuit boards that the switches themselves are connected to. If I could get my hands on some spare switch boards or a non-functioning x3 live, I could try my idea out and if it doesn't work I can just replace the original switch boards. Can anybody help me out?
