  1. Thanks, I’ll try this if I go PG. The HD still offers good tones to my ears but lacks of pedals is frustrating 5 years on. Just for some perspective I had a look at the HX LT online - (obviously) it’s a much larger unit and over twice the weight. Certainly an consideration for folks with compact ‘guitar rooms’ or when travelling or jamming with friends? It makes the above workaround look appealing. (;-)
  2. Thanks mate, sorry about the delay replying. It's a fair enough answer. The TSA30 is unorthodox with the FX loop is behind the TS circuit but in front of the pre-amp. It's a fairly clean amp sans TS circuit, esp. on low gain settings. Since posting my question a couple of local amp techs (they make quality valve amps) have stated that it may be possible to modify the amp FX loop but it may cost 1/3 to 1/2 amp new price. The last chap said to get the Effect unit and try all the alternate ways (front /FX send/ powered spk) of amplification before taking the FX-mod route. Seems sensible and may save some money for a decent powered speaker in the near future? So as per your comments, I might do just that (FX Ret) and A/B sound with the FoA. I'm close to buying - I've tested the PG twice and sales have demo'd & it looks / sounds great - better than the Pod HD! To me it's always good to see/hear first than just buy on line based on videos, forums and written reviews? It's going to be a bit of a learning curve c/w the old HD unit but a fun ride no doubt! Cheers.
  3. G'day all, I have recently tested the Pod Go (and had sales stuff demo) and overall, and on a very limited sample of two short sessions, I'm quite impressed with the unit as an upgrade to my Pod HD Desktop/Bean. I note the discussion here around the four free effect blocks, the resulting limitations, and ways to mitigate the issues. On another thread, someone has suggested using their Pod HD for supplementing effects for the Pod Go. I wonder if there's any thoughts here as to whether that could work or would just muddy the tone - depending on the effect chosen? (Say maybe a delay or reverb at the end of the chain?) Or would it be better to get a standalone delay or reverb (a true bypass unit?) that would colour the sound less when used or bypassed? Cheers in advance for any views - as a home-based guitarist, its hard to justify spending around twice the Pod Go cost for a Helix LT, when its full (extra blocks) capability will rarely be required.
  4. Howdy. (I sort of still say this in Aussie sometimes - showing my age?). (;-) I’m thinking of updating my old but still quite serviceable Pod HD Desktop with a Pod Go, for a purely home-based guitarist it seems to offer most things I need - especially with an effects loop - at a price that even here (~US$650) is ‘reasonable’. I would like to use the 4CM method with (say Pod Go) into my tube amp similar to the way JogNeuch described. (On occasions). I can also see a use for just running into the amp loop for the power section, bypassing the pre-amp and using the variety of PG amp models. Now the issue is that I have an Ibanez TSA30 (Tubescreamer) amp with a weird Fx loop. When used the fix loop only bypasses the TS circuit at the very front of amp - not the pre-amp like ‘normal’ loops. The TSA30 has some very nice tones, quiet when not playing, flexible, good cleans, and get some nice crunchy tones at bedroom volume levels so I want to keep it and not rush out and spend ~ $US600 / $AU1,000 on a Blues Jnr or Bassbreaker with a real loop? Or a Blackstar HTR5 which looks great too? But I need to mod it locally - preferably with a professional amp maker who’s done this sort of thing (adding loops) before. Estimated cost might be ~ $AU250 / $US150 or so. So my question(s) are: will the investment be worth it - ie. sound noticeably better than sending all The signal from the PG to the front of amp? (Bearing in mind I cannot currently bypass the pre-amp, so to use any PG amp modelling, I’m effectively running two pre-amps in series. (Yes as per the HD desktop I’d like to explore the PG models - I don’t have powered speakers - yet! - one day!) Is it only on the more distorted (& cranked?) amp models (used with time-based effects), that I’ll really appreciate fitting and using an FX loop for the 4CM? Or is the sound quality difference obvious? My gut feel reading lots of threads around various forums (fora?) is that a proper loop will make a difference for sound and open up a greater range of PG tones. But I’d greatly appreciate any views here before outplaying cash (Soon) on either the FX loop mod or the Pod Go - which I’d like to get before Christmas ideally and relieve The Pando boredom of Melbourne in a hard lockdown - and no gigs allowed anywhere! Thanks in advance. PS; a couple of addenda: the Boss GT100 v2 is ‘sort of’ on the list - looks good, good fx but modelling behind the PG? Quite a bit bigger too for a compact room? Any thoughts on the type, brand (or wattage) of powered speaker required to best use the tonal qualities of the Pod? cheers. (Trying to keep to a budget (hobby) here).
  5. Thanks Punkyboy and BillBee, You'll be glad to know I actually read some instructions and realised I hadn't actually lost the set lists - I just had to scroll to a new bank of 64 tones. Once I pressed learnt to press DOWN on the Enter & Views rocker switches the full suite of sounds (ie. 4 banks of 16x4) became visible again. So lesson learnt: really the relevant manuals - ESP the shorter Pilots Handbook and back up set lists to the PC ASAP -(ie. When first connecting via USB). This later step is pending - have held off that connection but need to be brave & get it over with. ...in the meantime I've been having lots of fun trying out most of the models & effects on a wide range of songs from Aussie UK & US - even trying some rather slow leads (:-) I hope to produce some tones of my own shortly, and save them too!
  6. Hi all, Well its been a couple of weeks and I'm enjoying using my POD HD (Bean) for the first time, even if not all the presets/set list items are my taste. Today I used my USB cord for the first time & hence was able to select new amps/models/ set lists on PC which was quite exciting. However on switching off an back on again I notice I have a new set 64 sounds saved to the POD (unintended), But and I have no set list models/sounds on the PC anymore. I note I have the 25-30 amps but no cabinets. I miss the cheap 12 string most of all, a few others were good too, though I think they were only on PC??? (stuff like all the Bass sounds, steel, nylon, various acoustic sounds etc...) I'm note sure if This latter stuff was downloaded or factory set list from Line 6. I'm also sufficiently new, I'm not sure if I should be running restore presets function or not? If so I'm still a bit unsure how to do so.(that w Anyway, a huge thanks in advance for anyone that can help. Cheers, Red Strat PS: Clearly I'll have to be a lot more care shutting down the PC in future! Especially if connected by USB
  7. Hi all, A big thanks for your welcome/advice... Joel: thanks for your interest - Ive actually just bought an HD Desktop on Ebay here in Oz. So now its a few days wait & then try the thing! Suspect I'll be doing as much reading as using at first - whic is fine!
  8. Thanks a lot for this TRZ - still navigating around all the downloads and support available - a tad overwhelming but exciting to this former very basic acoustic home guitarist!! (Patience eh?)
  9. Howdy, I'm new to electric guitars, Amps and effects, having bought a Squier Strat & Roland amp in July. I've just bought a used POD HD Desktop (bean) but it's yet to be delivered. Sounds like an incredible device - I was once the Pod 2.0 and it was pretty good! I'd be grateful if someone can assist with the following questions: Is the POD HD desktop (bean) still sold new? Is it still supported (ie with software updates etc...) is there a current lull in available software online? Is more coming up? Are there other ways to access new Amps? And any general tips for someone new to elec guitars and an HD? maybe get used to pre-sets first before too many new sounds / downloads? thanks a heap in advance for advice. CS
