OK here is the fix. There is a bug updating the default presets that corrupts the amplifi. All you have to do is turn the AMPLIFi off, then hold your volume and tone buttons down, then turn it back on. You will see a single flashing light and you can release the buttons. Line 6 calls this a factory reset but it seems to preserve the firmware version (i.e. does not downgrade your firmware). This ERASES YOUR TONE BANK but also cleans up the corruption. It should be back to the original tone config with your latest firmware. Note that some settings that are flash-backed are safe to change such as disabling the tap light flashing. The problem seems to be limited to tone updates to the amplifi. Ill call amplifi today to let them know about the bug. -d

I can also confirm reflashing the firmware does not recover the amp.

I am confirm saving to 1A bank causes issue in Amplifi. It will fail on next power cycle with four blinking lights Must be flash corruption bug

The effects floor units each come with one pedal that does volume, wah, or some fx of your choosing. You can always add a floor unit to the amplifi amps as well but you are limited to the older effects as mentioned above (my guess would be the amplifi line has lower-end DSPs). (these have more hookup options than Im listing.. and all can USB to computer for recording) AMPLIFI FX100: Low end fx unit with pedal.... can hook up to an amp and standard guitar. iPad tone mgmt FIREHAWK FX: Mid range fx unit with pedal... can hook up to an amp, standard guitar, variax guitar. HD effects capable. iPad tone mgmt HD500X: High end fx unit with pedal... can hook up to amp, standard guitar, variax guitar. HD effects capable. ^^^ The above need an AMP but have headphone jacks. AMPLIF 75/150 is an amp with digital effects, similar to the AMPLIFI FX100 but you would have to add the following to get the pedal: FBV MkII Foot Controller: Low end pedal and switches There are more options than these, helix and whatnot, but I would leave that to someone that knows what they are talking about :) For many of us the variax hookup and hd effects are they key differentiators from amplifi

Don't forget to consider the floor units (amplifi fx, firehawk, hd500) have a configurable effects pedal. You can add a low-end pedal floor kit to amplifi amps or a low-end amp to an effects floor unit :)

Ok so support helped me figure this out.... Ill post here for others: Make sure no red lights appear on your USB->Variax cable. It should have two bright flashing green lights. You need to power your guitar for workbench HD to see it. The provide USB will not provide power over ethernet (unlike say the firehawk). To do this, ensure your variax battery is charged and installed, and then just plugin in a cable to the guitar's 1/4" amp jack (amp not necessary, just plug in a cable). As soon as you do this, the guitar powers itself up using its battery and both lights on the USB to variax box will turn green and all is well. Its very weird this is not mentioned by the workbench app itself when you scan for your guitar and the dialog says 'no guitar found' or some such. It should suggest this step.

I have an 89F hooked to my mac running latest os. Monkey connects fine and indicates version of firmware in guitar is latest and that workbench HD is latest. I run wb hd and it indicates no connected guitar. I try to scan in the app but it never finds it. Anyone have this problem? thx -d

I spoke to tech support and the girl claimed to have not heard of this issue before and recommended just return to store or for repair. Like you my amp would not stay on long enough to do anything with resets. Im just going to exchange it if they have another or return it. A bit nervous about exchanging it though, as perhaps a bad part entered their production line. Im in 60% humidity, maybe there is an issue there I dunno. I have had electronics fail over time due to humidity... but not within an hour of opening the box lol.

It worked for an hour. I updated it, sat it on the floor and played for about an hour in a benign home environment on clean power. I had brand new firehawk fx hooked up to it. at some point it just turned itself off. Now turning it on has a momentary awakening (a millisecond or so) and its off. Nothing. What is going on? This thing CANNOT possibly be so delicate. Any ideas? its clearly returnable. Ill call line 6 when they open up today.

Hi, the line 6 brochure mentions mac/pc for recording over USB. I was wondering if the firehawk would support mac recording via logic pro or garage band, or perhaps cubase (since they promo some cubase stuff on line 6 site). thanks -d
