  1. philm is spot on but if you plug your POD into the fx return of your amplifier, that should bypass the preamp section and give you the sound youre looking for yo :D .
  2. Different guitars will have a different sound, so this is pretty common. You are approaching this in a "mass production" sense. It will get you a lot of presets without the hassle, but youre not getting the best results for each guitar. The only way to truly get a good tone for each guitar, is to take your time with each guitar and program the tone that sounds best for it.
