  1. I don't feel that guitar is worth playing anymore since I can't get this tone.
  2. Your attempt was mediocre. Waiting patiently for a better one.
  3. It is not my fault you amateurs cannot replicate what you consider to be a basic tone
  4. I fear the answer is no. Starts at 0:05.
  5. It is certainly on the right track and I do appreciate you putting that up, but I'm sure you can tell it is still missing more than just the harmony. There's a tad too much distortion and the voicing isn't quite right, most likely because you didn't use both chorus and flanger.
  6. Why would I be at breaking point when I'm being proven correct? Also who is Frank Zappa and why do I care?
  7. And yet another day of all talk. So much for the people proclaiming they have a good 'police' sound.
  8. It's going to need a lot more than that. It sounds like a talkbox at the moment.
  9. And not a single clip was seen the next day either. Okay, how about we make this more interesting? Below is a clip someone posted using their Axe FX II on the official forums. It is the closest attempt I've seen, but it isn't really that close either. Can anyone do it better on a Helix? 0:00 - 0:06: The original recording as performed by Andy Summers 0:07 - End: The recording on the Axe FX II https://soundcloud.com/stef_herbuel/messagetonematch
  10. *facepalm* My comment regarding numpties was obviously not referring to you but others in this thread. I responded to you because you incorrectly called me out to present a take, which I already said cannot be done.
  11. What? I'm the one who is saying that this tone cannot be replicated, not that I could easily do it like some of you numpties are. My statement is being proven by the fact that no one has even posted a clip that they believe would be worthy.
  12. And not a single clip was seen that day. You are all talk.
  13. Anyone who says that only Andy Summers could get that tone is wrong. Guess what? Even Andy himself couldn't replicate that tone in a live setting, so hence why I'm betting you can't get it on a Helix. It is not the multi tracking that is so special about it either. There's something about this tone that can't be explained, but I'm open to takers. Also the "tone is in the fingers" argument is stupid when it comes to playing basic suspended 9 chords like those in this song, because there's only so many ways to push a string against a fret. The only time that argument could ever come into play is when you're comparing more expressive techniques like vibrato, and even then, I'd argue it is nothing more than an excuse.
  14. Starts at 0:05 If someone posts a clip replicating this tone, I will eat my hat
  15. This tone cannot be replicated, and I firmly state that because I've never seen it done. I don't think I'll ever be happy again.
  16. Yes, but even the "recorded" tone needs to have some explanation behind it. Overdubbing and harmonizing the guitars won't do it alone. Do you want to try explaining what he did on that recording?
  17. As far as I'm concerned, this tone is unreplicable. Even Andy himself couldn't get his live rig to sound like the original recording. I found his live sound to be cleaner, more jazz-like than the original, which instead had an unexplainable kick and punch despite little to no gain. I have to accept that I will never get this tone, and I don't feel like life is worth living anymore.
