  1. You're right. In the end, they are just two different ways of working. One way is more suitable than the other, depending on people.
  2. Yep, but it's not convenient to do the same thing two hundred times. I was not aware of what the tool was not able to do (converting entire setlists) unless the link was posted, by the way.
  3. I was not talking about audio differences. We all agree that ears make the final decision, and we can test everything we want with the unit. I was just curious about what goes behind the scenes, in terms of acoustic/physics (types of filters, routing in series/parallel, etc.). I think we can describe it with some objective terms. It does not replace the practical side of a recording session (set a mic with different positions/angles to hear the differences), it would be complementary for curious people.
  4. Very interesting. Now I would be very curious to know what "kind of filtering" is :) No problem for not doing an ETA, it's completely normal. Thanks in advance for all of your work. If I have other ideas, I will not fail to come here to let you know about these.
  5. As you may guess, I already searched on Google before posting, and the link didn't show up. I am not speaking English very well, so maybe you used the right words in the search field. Anyway, this is what I looked for. Thank you for that. I hope this will help other people too in the forum.
  6. Thanks Craig. You do a great job. It's very useful for Helix users. No doubt about that :) I am happy to know you are working on the 3.5 update. As a noob concerning the sound recording of an amped guitar, I would like to know what are the differences between, for example, changing the angle of the mic position and filtering a specific range of frequencies. It may seem stupid for an expert, but for someone who thinks in terms of basic physics, all parameters are very similar and sometimes it's not obvious that changing an amp/cab/mic parameter is very different than filtering/reverberating/saturating the audio signal.
  7. I wasn't aware of this other forum. Thanks for the info.
  8. Hello, Someone in the comment section of the video below says that a user has created a tool for converting presets using cabs before 3.5 by replacing them by new IR cabs. Is it true? Can someone post the link, please? Thanks. ) sait
  9. Hello Craig, Out of curiosity, do you plan to update the book according to the 3.5 update? If so, will it be part of the free update or a 2.0 version of the book? Thanks, All the best.
  10. Thank you very much for all your replies and your reactivity. I now have all the info I needed. I will make a constructive feedback after reading it.
  11. Hello, Are ALL the effects described (legacy FX included) with every parameter? Can you give an example, please? It's something I was looking for for a long time. I may pull the trigger after your confirmation. Are the amps also described and referred with the original base model? Do you know if the e-book will be updated? If so, is it for free or will we need to pay? Thanks.

    Helix 2.9

Thanks guys for your all your explanation about pitch detection.

    Helix 2.9

Isn't it the same aspect? I mean, do internal bloc synths in the Helix already commit an audio-to-midi translation before sending these MIDI information to the synth? I thought it worked this way (this is why I would like to simply send these information out of the MIDI/USB port of the unit). If not, how does it work? And how do the pedals like the Boss/EHX ones work?

    Helix 2.9

What would be totally crazy is if the audio-to-MIDI translation of polyphonic pitching blocks can be sent out of the MIDI out of the Helix, so that you could play your electric guitar and make sounds of your hardware synth with it.

Thanks for your reply. Okay, so let's only hope for the MIDI tempo sync feature :)

    Helix 2.9

May I ask if a MIDI tempo sync gonna happen with the looper (with specifying the number of bars to record)? And/Or a multichannel looper? Just to know if I have to buy a new gear next month, but I will understand if you prefer not to mention that information :) To come back to the main topic, I agree with HonestOpinion, the more the screen is used in a smart way, the more I will be happy too. Thanks guys for bringing another great update to this machine.

    Helix 2.9

I agree. There are two kinds of duplicates: - HX exclusive blocks VS legacy blocks. Not all are the same but some few, and I sincerely never heard a difference in terms of tone - HX blocks of a same category. Here I think about tremolos or delays for example. We could have been for example one tremolo that gathers all tremolo's blocks (excepted the chop trem), just with more parameters in it (and potentially a switch for mono/sterero version). Even if we are very lucky to have all these pedals reproduction, the way blocks are designed and organised don't much suit sound designers needs. But 1) it would be more complicated to manage CPUs and 2) HX products deal about modelisation and are mainly dedicated to guitarists, so... Anyways, the subcategory of models is welcome.

    Helix 2.9

Wow! This is beyond what I imagined. I mean, full customisation is really cool. Thanks for the information.

    Helix 2.9

Such a good news. I'm not very curious about new models and meters but rather about the "Split Dynamics (Path A/B Routing)". I guess that, as phil_m said, it's a crossover based on the volume in dB rather than the frequency in Hz. I can easily imagine a parameter called "attack" that fades the signal from A to B and a "release" for the opposite (B -> A). The IR attachment by names is a good addition too and will avoid losts of datas when we want to organise our IR files. I especially like the "New Switch/Snap/Looper Layout Options". I guess the footswitchs will split into three parts: 4 for bypassing blocks, 4 for snapshots and 4 for the looper (or another combination). Maybe will it be possible to choose the number of blocks per function, and potentially blend them with the two preset switches. I really would have liked to sync the looper via MIDI or set number of bars according to the preset tempo (in order to play with a drum machine for example) and have 3 or 4 independant layers instead of overdubbing, but... Wow, as lungho said, four years of free updates! It's very appreciable. Each addition is welcome and an ice on the cake. Very cool for the "New Model Subcategory Shortcuts". I guess there is now another level in the tree of models. For example, when entering the modulation, we could select "flanger" or "chorus" (idem for distorsion: overdrive, distorsion, fuzz). I'm curious to see how they managed with all the amp and cab models. I admit it needed organisation and I hope that we will have the choice to add this new level or not (for the ones who prefer scrolling with a lot of amps for example). Just my thoughts here, Can't wait to try this update, even if there is a loooooot to do with the current firmware :)
  20. Okay, I wasn't aware of that part. It makes sense. Exactly, I was focused on a 0-127 list of presets, ordered from the top to the bottom. It's a little confusing for me, but not a big deal. Yep, good advice. It's like you level up in a MMORPG : you grow up ^^
  21. Thanks phil_m. So it's not a bug at all, just a strange choice made by developers. I say "strange" because in all other kind of situations (in the real life, and especially in the computer world), the "^" means an "up arrow", which indicates that we expect to go to the thing that is just above the current one (the previous one), and vice versa. Am I the only one that interprets the "^" symbol as an up arrow (and the "v" as a down arrow), meaning the word "previous" in a case of a vertical list of presets?
  22. Hello, I just upgraded to HX 2.81 and I prefer to let you know that I don't use the Helix Floor often. I noticed that the "<" symbols for the preset stomps are inverted. You have to press the "arrow down" switch to go to the previous preset (and vice versa). I'm aware that the two switches can be inverted via the preferences. But the problem remains. Imho, it has to be the contrary : "arrow down" => next preset (to follow the presets list, it's more logical) and vice versa. What do you think about? It's not very important, okay, but I prefer to ask to active users if it's "normal" (= always has been the case since HX 1). If not, do I have to put it in the bug report topic? Thank you.
