  1. For those of you using a PA-style speaker for on-stage sound, are you using it as a Wedge? As a Speaker-on-a-Pole? Sitting in an "upright" position (standing on end)? If it's a wedge do you put it flat on the floor? on a Gramma or other isolation pad? elevated on a milk-crate or guitar amp stand? I am pretty much satisfied with the sounds I'm building so far through my K10. I've had the Helix about 3 weeks, and have been building patches using the K10 on the floor in a wedge configuration. I have a K8 on-order that I plan to use behind me on stage. Our band uses K10s as vocal monitors, but i think the rest of the band will want to hear a cab on stage (we rarely go to FOH in small clubs), so i'm trying to figure out the advantages or disadvantages of the different positional options for a speaker behind me on stage. 4-piece band 2-guitars or 1-guitar - 1-Keys, Classic Rock, Blues, Country. I usually run the PA/Mixer on my side, so we never have a real "sound man". We all sing and have mics and monitors.
  2. I tend to use the Normal channels more than Bright because on those real amps, that's the channel I used. Tweed Bassman, Plexi, etc. I found that my guitars, pedals, desired tone, etc were much easier to achieve via the normal channels. The bright was too strident and "fizzy" or "buzzsaw"-like. So when I got me Helix (only a few weeks ago, I'm a newbie), I tend to use the "NRM" versions for the very same reason. I lean toward Cleans and Classic-Rock-style overdriven tones, and the NRM versions just seem so much easier to dial that in. There is still too much fizz and "spittiness" in the BRT versions for my taste. On the Blackface models (Twin / Deluxe), I go for the Vibrato Channels because those amps tend to need a little more push in the mids and the extra gain stage in the Vibrato channel is definitely nicer (to my ears). I also used Vibrato on those real amps because i wanted to use the Tremolo and Reverb.
  3. Just saw this on my email... Sep 26, 2017 8:14 AM ET On FedEx vehicle for delivery UPPER MARLBORO, MD I'm a never-ever-tried-modeling-before tube guy. So I'm sure I'll have tons of questions. Have lurked here and TGP for months while researching, but I think I'm ready. I couldn't resist any longer when Sweetwater offered the FREE Helix Backpack with purchase of a new Helix. My plan... use Helix as a direct-to-the-board solution. Stage monitor with either my current vocal monitor in Ch B (QSC K10) OR pick up an extra K10 or a K8 to put behind me. We don't usually mic or go to FOH with our guitars or bass, but if this works, it will eliminate carrying heavy cabs or tube amps. Thanks for all the great info thus far. I'm sure I'll become an annoying burden on all of you as I explore.
