  1. ^ all of that - including the referenced link helped me. Also helpful to note that when I rebooted my “bricked” Helix into safe mode, there where unintelligible characters on the display (and I thought I was surely done) - yet the Line 6 Updater WAS still able to “see” my Helix and update it properly. Once updated don’t forget the factory reset or you will still get the nag that there is a software update available in HXEdit.
  2. a little late to the discussion I know; but, perhaps like me, they were failing to page over to the next screen where the trim option is located. once you are in the Global Settings > Ins/Outs > you must page to the second screen to get the trim option.... Maybe this will help the next folks coming down the pike to figure this out ;-)
  3. Greetings All, Late to the Helix Party, although i’ve been a user of Line 6 since a Pod Pro 2 days… Apologies if this has been asked before, is there a Tone Guide, similar to Meambobbo’s Pod HD guide at (http://foobazaar.com/podhd/toneGuide/)? thanks in advance, -Rick
  4. Radatasts and Charlie_Watt thank you both for taking the time to reply to my query... sort of figured as much about the analog switching; but, it is always nice to have another confirmation (espcially when dealing with the ways of the POD) Yes, the POD HD's reverbs are indeed pretty good; but, every now and then, nothing is quite like a 'very good' spring reverb (which this amp has - it sort of blooms behind the note after you play it very nice). Plus I would free up a little processor headrom for other effects ;) again, thanks! , Rick
  5. figured this has been answered before - just can't seem to find it in my search... Can the HD 500 be used to switch on and off the reverb on an amplifier? My (ValveTrain) amp accomodates a 1/4" jack and it would be helpful, to be able to asign a footswitch to turn that on and off (as well as maybe turn of the digital reverb). Please note that this is analog and not MIDI switching... thanks in advance, -Rick
  6. Greetings All, I find that the POD HD 500 tuner is 'dead on' with my Snark and Intelsense tuners which all calibrated to A 440. Though none of these digital tuners have as fine a verner as my Peterson Strobe Tuner ;-) applogies if this was already mentioned: have you confirmed that your guitar is properly intonated? I find my G always needs a little more compensating at the bridge than the other strings. Once my guitars are 'strobed' and intonated they tune fine irrespecitve of the tuner... Regarding the floating bridge issues, for the longest time I have used a Tremol-no which allowed the bridge to be locked down completely, funtion as dive (down) only or float normally. Your 'detent' position (resting floating point) on the bridge must be a set before you intonate your guitar as the distance from the bridge to the nut will be different depending on where the bridge returns.... Ensuring that your bridge is floated correctly will go a long way to making the intonation process a little more accurate. hope this helps, -Rick
  7. Jandrio, appreciate your contibution to the conversation - and there is alway good council in the 'suggestion' to RTFM (your first post) - reading the freekin manual is an often overlooked source of info which I am often guilty. I will later also try and confirm or deny that a blank amp block sums to mono - though Nico has a lot of trial and error invested in sharing his info and as I grow lazier i tend to defer to other's experience =:o again, thank you for your input.
  8. Nico, awesome thank you very much! Here is another +1 on pinning your post > How Has Greatly Improved My Use Of The Hd500 lots of helpful info on the 'single input approach'. As a HD300 owner also - I have indeed noticed how much easier it was to arrive at a great sound - [not necessarily related to this topic - I also really like the flexibilty of being able to send easily send a full cab feed to FOH and another without the cab to my rig. (yes I played for a long time with a FRFR wedge; but, really missed the whole guitar into the amp sound on stage)] Of course as luck would have it, I did come across your thread after I had posted my original question and probablly would have posted anyway since my question was also not just about the placement of the tube drive; but, that there was NO amp in the block and it was as much an observation as anything else. When I was reading your post, I was remembering the epic thread from 2011 > What every HD500 owner needs to know and it's spawn > What every POD HD 500 owner *REALLY* needs to know. < I am including those references for those who may come later with similar questions - AND as a reminder that many good peeps have been to solve the many secrets of the HD500 and SHARE results about these issues for a long time! thank you for being such a significant contributor. ;) (sorry for any typos - my firefox spell check doesn't seem to work in this input box)
  9. Radatats, thanks for taking the time to reply. Input 2 is set to Variax which I'm NOT using. In the mixer, both input faders are centered and at 0dB. The Tube Drive before the empty amp blocks sounds crisp and defined tonally; but when I place it (without changing any of the device parameters) behind the empty amp block, the Tube Drive sounds dull and lifeless. Been using the HD 500 for 3+ years - in a variety of ways and this is the first time I've every tried any effects behind an empty effects block. And, never noticed (or paid attention) any difference behind an assigned amp block. :-) Again, thanks for your reply, -Rick
  10. Greetings all, apologies, since I'm sure this topic has been covered before (maybe years back in the old forums)... I use my HD 500 both as stand alone unit for FOH and/or as a straight up effects in front of an old Bassman rig.... When mashing up some new patches for use with my AMP I noticed that the sound of a my tube drive before the an empty amp block sounds completely different than post empty amp block. I would expect this behavoir when there is an actual Amp assigned - I don't know why it surprised me that it is occuring when there is no amp in the amp block. I guess I was expecting just a transparent passing of the sound. =:o thanks in advance for your input, -Rick
  11. Greetings All, Been awhile since I've had to post... I am trying to determine if my problem is hardware or software =:o I have a POD PRO (not Pro HD) running Firmware 1.3 - that has intermittent volume drop outs in Channel B. Even after reseting the POD back to factory patches, the unit will suddenly drop to 1/2 to 1/4 volume. If I turn the unit off and back on the B channel is back to full volume. Any suggestions on what may be the cause? thanks in advance, -Rick
