Upgrade to 500X

I upgraded from a 500 to a 500x and am rather glad I did for the extra DSP. Dual amp/cab setups are pretty usable with the extra power.

The cab parameters can change the sound quite a bit, with one in particular affecting things the most, which is the resonance. It also acts a kind of master control for the thump and decay parameters. And then there is the low cut which is useful for getting rid of some of the muddy low end that is characteristic of some amps. There is nothing quite as extensive as you might see in a vst ir plugin, but you can get some good tones (equally on par with ir plugins) by messing with these parameters and trying the different combinations of cabs and mics. And dual cabs expand the combinations even more.

going from 300 to 500 is all about features. how many bells and whistles do you want.

there's no real reason to go from a 500 to a 500x, but if you are going to go from the 300 to a 500, you may as well do the full upgrade and make it the x...

although, with namm right around the corner. wait a few weeks to see what new and exciting products are coming.
