First lets start with my equipment

Marshall MG100HDFX Guitar Combo Amp 1. INPUT jack
Use a good quality guitar cable (i.e. one that’s
screened/shielded) to plug your guitar in here.

3. FX RETURN
This is where you connect the OUTPUT of the
effects processor you are using in the effects
loop.

4. FX SEND
If you want to use an external effects
processor in your amp’s built-in Parallel effects
loop, this is the jack you connect to the INPUT
of the unit you are using.

5. FX LEVEL Switch
Selects the level to match your external effects
units (+4dB for rack units and -10dB for pedals)

19. EFFECTS LOOP MIX control
When using the FX Loop on the rear panel, the
FX Mix allows you to dial in the desired amount of
effected signal into your overall sound. Turning
the control fully clockwise will result in a fully
effected sound, i.e. no dry signal and turning the
control fully anticlockwise will result in a fully dry

Is this the correct setup

Cable 1: Guitar output > Boss or Line6 device Input
Cable 2: Boss or Line6 device effect loop send > amp input
Cable 3: Amp effect loop send > Boss or Line6 device effect loop return
Cable 4: Boss or Line6 device output > amp effect loop return

This gives you a proper signal path:

I did not get any single from the FX send from the POD, I did add the FX block in the middle of the chain

I don't use the 4cm method, but I'll give it shot since no one answered yet. I beleive you have to an input to the POD itself. The typically method is Guitar->POD HD500x (Cable 1) -> POD FX Send Guitar Amp Guitar In (Cable 2) -> Amp FX Send to POD FX Return (Cable 3) -> POD Output to Amp FX Return (Cable 4).  This gives the POD a guitar input and allows you to have effects before the gutiar amps Pre amp, if you put them there before the FX Loops block. And to have effects in the Amps FX Loop by putting them after the POD FX Loop.  Also you can turn on/off the POD FX Loop along with the opposite POD amp models to control if you want to use the Amps PreAmp or use a Modelled PreAmp.

just curious as to why you would bother doing 4CM with a solid state amp?

just seems like you would be able to best the built in preamp like 50 times over with the models in the pod....

i genuinely do not mean to offend... i seriously, just don't know what your amp would have to offer that's going to rival the pod's offering.

clearly... your tone is your tone... you like what you like... .and my post isn't much help in your efforts to accomplish this...

just to possibly be helpful though...

here's a 4CM visual

I wanted to hear the difference in sound when adding FX before and after the pre-amp, I have tried direct into the amp from the POD, and direct to the FX loop of the amp from the POD, I stayed with the FX loop setup because direct to the input of the amp had to much gain when using distortion no matter how I setup the out puts of the POD, just wanted to see if I can improve the tone
