geebake
It may be too early to ask this question. I'm guessing few if any have actually had one of the VAX Standards in their hands yet. I'm just curious if the neck is strat like or more of a shredder neck. Anyone know? Thanks, Greg

Then again, the JTV69 is the "Strat-like" Tyler...yet the neck was "telephone pole-like". Only one way to find out...the mystery still abounds.

heavyj
I got to play one the other day at a "Tone Made Easy Event". I'd say the neck is very strat like, it was a matte finish and felt great to me (for full disclosure, I'm 6'4, and have large hands but they aren't crazy bear paws or anything like that) The store that had the demo also had a jtv59 & 69, so I went right over after playing the standard. I'll say the 69 felt slightly thinner to my hands after playing the standard but not by much. And of course the 59 was a completely different beast (still felt nice, but a pointless a/b test). I'll say this though, I preordered a standard by the time I got back to my car. The JTVs felt great but the standard felt "right" to my hands. Of course ymmv.
Charlie_Watt
It's nice to hear that someone has actually touched one of these. Glad you felt it was Strat Like. IT should be.
clay-man
If they had a maple neck option I probably would have gotten this over the JTV.

Did you feel the 69 had a thinner profile, or thinner nut width? Or God forbid, both? I would think it almost impossible for anything to have a thinner nut width than the 69, so I'll assume we're talking profile...but even that's a little disconcerting. That would mean they actually managed to make a neck that's more of a tree-trunk than the 69, lol. I know it's a personal preference thing, but that would drive me nuts. Oh well, I'll cross my fingers and hope that the various Strat replacement options fit the new neck pocket.
pwhittles
It is personal preference. I've played wide/thin for DECADES - PRS and Ibanez but I adore the 69 neck. I'm not a stray fan at all. Give me a Tyler 69!
