HD500X - Midi control tap tempo to Timeline

I'm new to this unit, loving it so far.  I have a Strymon Timeline in the loop.  I want to sync the tempo between the two.  Changing patches on the Timeline via the 500X is not so important although i know that can be done.  My desire is for a single tap to sync the time based effects of the two units, either from the 500X to the Timeline or possibly the other way?

Thanks for the input!

Midi out of the HD500X to Midi in on your Strymon Timeline. It looks like the Timeline receives Remote Tap from CC#93 so you just need to go into the HD setup and add that to your tap tempo button. This will allow you to use the Tap button on the HD to sync both units. Hope this helps you out.

Leesteel's answer is right on. One thing you'll want to do beyond this, though, is to set the Timeline and this controller to a different MIDI channel than what you have the HD500X set to in its setup menu. Otherwise you would run the risk of having nuisance CC commands going to the Timeline from the HD500X when you turn effects on and off on the HD500X.

OOps, yup exactly!  Unless you want to set up the timeline to respond to patch changes as I do with my H9.

Thanks for the help friends! Exactly what I needed! I look forward to giving this a try tonite. At present I'm not wanting to control patches on.the Timeline. Can I turn off the midi controls to preset changes on the Timeline from the HD500 and just use the tempo sync?

I'd love to try the H9 next! Looks like a cool unit. What effects are you using with it?

I'm curious how you are using your HD500. I'll be running direct to PA. Always looking for hints there too!

Thanks again.

I run my HD500X direct to the FOH and use a monitor, no amp. Once I freed my mind of the idea of having an amp on stage, I never looked back. :)

On the H9, I mainly use it for reverb right now. I have 3 or 4 reverb patches that I like and have paired them with patches on the 500X. When I hit the button for my preset, the H9 is told what user preset to call up via midi from the 500X to the H9.

As someone else suggested, just change your Timeline to Midi Channel 2 and set the midi channel for the Tap Button to be Channel 2. That should perform exactly as you are expecting.

Thanks leesteel,  I've been running direct to FOH for about 9 years now.  Started with the XTLive, ventured over the Boss side through the GT10 and GT100, now back with Line 6 HD500X.  Long range plans include a Variax and maybe to the dream rig side with L6 PA cabs.   I play mostly at church and really dig all guitar styles in the worship medium.  Occasionally do a little classic rock and blues with as well.  I use an amp in that setting, but have to admit I'd rather be running direct.

Had my first practice with the HD500X tonite.  I thought it went well.  We use IEMs and at practice don't normally have an FOH tech.  I listened to the house a couple times and wasn't completely disappointed.  I still need work on my basic amp tone, hopefully by Sunday I'll be closer.

I'll be searching the custom tone site to see what I can find.  I have downloaded the vintage amp pack, so I'm working on it.

Love the H9, I bet the reverbs are killer.  I've not worked with midi that much but great to hear the possibilities.

Thanks again for the responses.

Hi guys, I realise it's an old thread. Does anyone know what midi command the HD500x uses to set it's tap tempo?  I want to send a command from my ipad using bluetooth midi to set the tempo to my backing track. the command will be embedded in the backing track/lyrics program.  I'll like to avoid simply sending a command to change HD500x patches as that would require many duplicate tones with just the tap tempo saved at different tempo.  Any ideas?
