Gawwuf
The original amp from which this model comes from (can I say it here? it is the Mesa Boogie Dual Rectifier!) has 3 modes... Vintage, Raw and Modern which all have distinct flavors to them. Am I missing something and is there a way to access these or has someone posted in ideascale about this, this is a great amp but we are only getting 1/3 of it without the other modes. Gawwuf
I went ahead and made an ideascale suggestion for any who may like this idea http://line6.ideasca...es/796433-23508
Gawwuf
Be sure to vote this up if you like the Cali Rectifier, Guitar Rig 5 Pro had all 3 modes done which really helped dial in some great tones. Helix models are so much better than GR5 that I'm sure they would be awesome!
jar1zx
I have a newer dual rec, and I have to say it gets into the mark tones a little. The cleans on this amp are pretty good, with a lot of tones between clean and high gain. Kinda easy to get the clean tones and just a bit of break up with this newer amp over the older recs I had in the past. Still not a mark 4/5 but not as much of a one trick pony as older models I have owned. And the blistering paint peeling gain is still a part of this amp just like the older models. (Mark iv and mark v can't do the rectifier gain without help). My helix responds like an older dual rec with gain. On cleans (ive gotten better with helix) but my dual rec hands down beat the cleans on most the amps on the helix with my set up. I would like to see a mark v on the helix and a little more work put in to taking cab sims off and sounding good. I have the cab's I like and I don't need the sims. I'm really picky though I picked my favorite cab by speaker, and wood used, I like the Marshall 1960 top cabs. If the orange cabs were not so heavy I would have one. jar1zx
Dont give rant I posted any mind. Like op said..... Helix doesn't give us much of what a dual rec can do. Unless line6 was copying an older single rec.
TheDaveDaveDave
Actually, to my ears, the Cali Pre sounds almost IDENTICAL to my Mark V's Extreme channel. I have a 4CM setlist, and wanted to convert them into a "backline" setlist. In the end, I can't tell the Mark V pre and the Cali Pre in an A/B test. (could be my crusty old eardrums though). That said, I'd also really to have the Rector Vintage mode in the helix, along with a LoneStar special Clean, Maverick Clean and a real Mark IIC+ Lead, and a Mark I Lead, and a.....
