HD500X + DT25 LVM

Recommended Posts

Has Line 6 ever clearified if they suggest using full models in LVM? The presets use full models, which seems strange to me. I know this is an old issue, but I have recently returned to this setup...and I'm wondering if Line 6 ever documented what exactly is happening in LVM with Line 6 link?

It seems to me that using the pre only models is the way to go regardless when using line 6 link and a DT series amp. I'm just not sure why the presets line 6 made have full models on them.

Don't over think it.  Just listen.

Remember that the default models in the amp with no POD, use cabinet modelling.

How many threads do we have on this board where guys complain that the POD models don't sound the same as the DT models of the same amp?  Usually it's because they don't realize that the DT amp model defaults use cabinet modelling.

I tried the pre models for a while but have gone back to almost exclusively full models with the POD.

You would think that's putting cabinet modelling on top of a cabinet, but I just know that I can make it sound better.

I've asked on this board if there's a different cab model applied to DT cabs than there is when you go POD direct to the board.  Haven't ever gotten an answer to that question.

So are you saying you use the pre-models with cabinet or full models with cabinet? I haven't ever tried the amp by itself...so I'm not comparing them that way. I'm trying to get the HD500X + DT25 to sound like my direct recorded tones from the HD500X.

I use almost exclusively full models with my POD HD through a DT50.

I tried the pre-only models for quite a while but switched back.  It would make sense to use the pre-only models...the DT 50 shouldn't need cab emulations right?...but to me it sounds better and you have more control of volume changes between patches with the full models.

I have some experimenting to do. I think a lot has to do with the master volume. I'm playing in a small room so the master is down on the amp, but cranked on the POD. I may need to re-think this a bit. Live on stage with the amp turned up I could see things being different. Thanks for the ideas.

So far I'm a fan of using the cab modeling "turn on" when using my HD500X with the DT25. It does sound much better. I'm not sure about using the full pre-amp models yet. At loud volumes it sounds better to me without them and in LVM the amp applies them anyway...if I understand that right. Either way I can't get my direct patches and DT patches to match each other. I have to have a setlist for each. No biggie.

In general, most report that DT amps seem to sound better when the HD master is set to about half (12:00), but direct from HD sounds better with master maxed.  Unfortunately, you can't be in 2 different master settings for your POD at the same time, so your solution of a set list for each seems mandatory to me.

On the bright side, I think I'll try using full amps (I have the same rig) since you guys are reporting success.  Deep edit parameters are on my mind.  Might open a whole new DT world for me.

Last time I worked with it...I thought it sounded best with the pre amp versions with cabs on. It's certainly a flexible rig. There doesn't seem to be a "right way" of doing things. I love the DT amps. Best thing Line 6 has ever made.

I have had the same considerations after reading relative posts. Apart from the fact that full amps sound better to my ears, with pre models I cannot get the same volume level. I've replicated the DT settings in my HD500 with pre model (no effects at all) and volume level is at 50%. Is there a way to fix that?
