njglover
This is maybe a dumb question, but... I'm totally on board with using the Helix live with my guitar, I'm just not sure yet how to best incorporate it into my live bass setup. Since I don't really want to rely on hearing myself through some dinky little monitors, I'm still going to want to bring my amp and cab, but I would also like to run a modeled output from the Helix to front of house. That way I have my 400+ on stage with me and a fully modeled (with cab) 400+ going to the mains. It seems easy enough, just run a Y-split and set one output to the 1/4" jacks and the other to the XLRs but... well, the problem I suppose is monitoring when practicing at home. I have to use headphones for practice, since I am in an apartment, and splitting the signal like that makes headphone listening not work very well. I guess I could set up a separate preset for that and just have it be all modeled... Any better ideas? The other question is making sure my levels are set right for going in to the actual amp. Is all the way up unity gain? Not really sure how best to set that, I would like to have an easy way to get repeatable output volume so I'm always hitting the front of the amp the same as I would plugging my bass directly in. fukuri
Just set up the at home preset ... (Copy of your gig one) with the multi out Easiest way In terms of the amp volume I set up the volume control to control my 1/4!back line and not the xlr out Find out where the volume is equal to plugging the bass in the front and then just mark the volume knob (it will be about 1 o clock)
njglover
Can you set the XLR out to just be line level out then? Sorry, I'm not super familiar with that aspect of the device.
fukuri
Yup And set the volume control to just control the 1/
njglover
No way! I should do that for all my guitar patches...
fukuri
It's a global setting so you only need to do it once The output routing (I.e one out for 1/4 and one for xlr) is per preset My set up is two 1/4 into two power amps and 1x12s. I split and bypass the cab model for these outs and control them with the volume knob The XLRs use the cab models and are always at line level I use the exp pedal to go from 0 to plus 7db on both outputs for solo boost or key riffs
njglover
Oooo I can set it to instrument level for 1/4" and line level for XLR and then set the volume knob to control digital ie neither. I wonder how well that will work... Being global makes it really handy for shows where I have to run my own FRFR, can change it very easily. Thanks!
