Extra gain when using Mod/Chorus Echo?

When I place a Mod/Chorus Echo block (mono) anywhere in my chain, I seem to get an extra bit of drive/gain in my tone. Not a lot, just enough to bug me. I've tried multiple combinations of Low/High Cut, Mix and Level settings with no luck. When I A/B this block against a Send/Return block connecting a Korg SDD 3000 (same parameters) there's no extra drive/gain. Has anyone experienced this before? Is there a solution?
