joeivory
Folks, Anyone else struggling with this? I run a POD HD500X with the 4 cable method so I can use my amp's distorted sound and add effects from the POD. But when I switch between patches that use the amp's preamp and patches that run purely through the POD, there's a noticeable break in the signal - it's not an instant switch. There's a brief moment of silence that's really not too slick, especially live. Anyone else noticed this? Cheers, Joe
joeivory
it's normal behavior.. much worse when the POD is connected to the computer running its editor because in that case every change needs time to be synced.. when the instantaneous switching between tones is absolutely necessary, I use more complex patches which are sort of 2 patches in 1 (DSP resources allowing), taking advantage of the possibility to assing multiple FX/amp on/off states to just one or two footswitches.. doing so no time gap occurs when changing tone.. some high-end modelers suffer the same issue Thanks a million for responding. So when I switch from a simple FX loop patch that uses the amp's distorted tone to a POD patch that uses an amp model, that time gap is normal? Wow. I'd love to hear more about those more complex patches you mentioned. Or are they a trade secret? ;)
joel_brown
You may be able to build a patch that has an amp model loaded but turned off then assign a footswitch to turn the amp model on/off when needed. That way it avoids the load time.

joeivory
you are lucky to have the "X" version of the HD500, which means that it is even more easy for you to build and use 2-in-1 patches than it is for people like me that still use the "no X" old version of the POD.. obviously it's more easy to build 2-in-1 patches for different tones which have at least some FXs in common, than it would be for tones with nothing in common.. the basic principle is quite simple the respective states (on or off) of multiple FXs can be assigned to the same footswitch, same thing can be done with 2 amp models, their respective states (on or off) can be assigned to the same footswitch.. eg.. one delay is turned on, one reverb is turned off, they are both assigned as they are (on or off) to the same footswitch, when you'll press the assigned footswitch, the delay will turn off and the reverb will turn on at the same time, and so on.. so... building the patch you can turn manually on all the FXs and/or amp needed for tone number 1, and turn off manually all the FXs and/or amp needed for tone number 2 (except the FXs in common, if any, between the 2 tones).. at this point assign the respective state as it is (ie just the blocks needed for one of the 2 tones are turned on) of all the FX and amp which need to be switched (on/off) for the tone change to the same footswitch.. et voilà ... every time you press just one footswitch the tone changes istantanely, what was off becomes on, and viceversa I see, I see - so the time lag is caused by switching patches, not switching effects etc on or off when you're still in a patch. That's really helpful - thanks so much.
