brockb
I just found my old Toneport DI-S down in the basement. Apparently I can't find GearBox that will run on Mac OSX Sierra. I thought I read somewhere that I could use Pod Farm for free with any Line6 device. So I downloaded Pod Farm 2.5, but it won't get out of trial saying I don't have a license... even though the Line6 License Messenger has authorized my computer and my TonePort. Did I read wrong that Pod Farm wasn't free with any Line 6 device (such as TonePort)? Am I stuck with a brick now? Or is there any Line6 software that will work? Thanks for the help. phil_m
POD Farm 2.5 isn't free with any Line 6 device. You can download and use POD Farm 1.12 standalone (not the plug-in) with the Toneport, but if you want to use 2.5, you have to pay for a 2.5 license, either by buying a device that the license is included with or buying it on its own. brockb
Thanks. I'll try and find the 1.12 and give it a try since developers haven't updated the Gearbox app to be compatible with OSX Sierra.
brockb
Actually... looks like I do have a paper weight. I tried downloading POD Farm 1.12 and installing it. During the install it says it can't install on any of my hard drives (there is a yellow caution sign on all of the HDs and it won't go any further than that). And of course that Monkey app only wants to download "the latest" version of POD Farm and doesn't give me the option of downloading a previous version. booooo That is what I get for going the virtual tone (software) route instead of just sticking to pedals. Hmmm... Well, that yellow caution thing sounds like a Mac issue, but I don't know. Is that on Monkey or just in the installer on the Mac? Did you try downloading and installing POD Farm directly, not through Monkey?
brockb
yeah... that was the standalone Mac version of 1.12. As mentioned, I can't seem to do it through Monkey because it only gives the option of downloading "the latest" POD Farm which is 2.5-something. It's probably just an issue of the software developers not wanting to continually support and build drivers for each new OS release (as a developer myself... I can't really blame them). That is the risk you take with these kinds of software based modeling packages. I figured since I couldn't get the Line 6 stuff to work I would reinstall Guitar Rig 5 and give that a go. It installed fine, but no output. Apparently Native Instrument decided to put the Guitar Rig Mobile driver on their "no longer supported" list once OSX Sierra came out. I guess as long as people go in to these software based modeling packages knowing that they need to dedicate a machine that can't be upgraded in the future so it must stay on the same OS in the long run for future compatibility and functionality, they'll be alright. I haven't owned a PC in over 8 years and we haven't had any of our Macs go bad during that time so I unfortunately don't have an old extra Mac just lying around with an older OSX on it. I'm just S.O.L. It's no bigs... I just remembered I had that little TonePort and thought it would be fun to hook it up and give it another go.
