moonman079
I finally got my 500x hooked up after 2 weeks. I have been reading through the manuals and watching a lot of demos. When ever I plug the power cable in there is a drastic noise increase. And I am get slight shocks. Where should I be looking to possibly fix the issues? blekenbleu
Disconnect the HD500X from power and obtain a new supply. You can check the old supply with a voltmeter, but you should never feel electrical shocks, since a good power supply completely isolates the HD500X from mains power, and the voltage from a good HD5000X power supply is too low to provide sensible shocks except in some pathological case, such as connecting yourself across the supply with salt water (e.g. perspiration) to reduce resistance. Continuing to use the current power supply without independently verifying that it is not defective is liable to damage the HD500X.
pfsmith0
Or, unplug it from the laptop to see if the noise stops. If it does, then the wiring is faulty between the laptop and HD500. Try plugging them into the same power strip to see if you get the same problem. Maybe even try turning the AC plugs around (if you can) when you plug them in. Regarding shocks, the HD500 (if it's not broken) is grounded through the IO connectors (USB, SPDIF, XLR, 1/4"). Remove all those (guitar, mixer, laptop, audio interface, etc) to see if the shocks still occur. If the HD500 provides a shock when it's there all by itself then, yes, somethings wrong with the unit or power supply.
