the29band
I have a Fender Mustang III (V1) that I'd like to use with the recently acquired Helix. So far I've been listening through headphones. Any recommendations on how to set it up? Do I just send the 1/4" Out from Helix to Mustang Effects Return?
MusicLaw
You've got several options. I have v.2 Mustangs (MIV and MII) with switchable FX Loop positions. Not sure how the v.1 Mustangs FX Loop postion is set up. You can come into the Mustang's FX Loop from the Helix and select the Basic Studio Preset if your Mustang has that Preset. If not, use the cleanest Preset your Mustang offers and try the Mustang Amp's Advanced Settings Parameter to disable the Cab Sim. Also try the Mustang with the Cab Sim enabled. You can also try coming in to the Mustang's front Instrument Input, and again, try to use the various Presets to find one that works for you. In this case, disable the Helix's Amp Cab selections, and explore using the Helix as an FX Pedal board. Another method is to come into the Mustang's AuxIn from the Helix's L&R Outputs. This will bypass all the Mustang's DSP and Tone Stac. Thus the only knob on the Mustang that will be active will be the Master Volume knob. In this context, you would explore the Helix's Amps and FXs, and you could also explore the Helix's Cabs. The Mustang as a Powered CAb does work well with the Helix once you dial in in for your tastes and Music style(s).
