skuest
I want to incorporate the HX unit into my rig. Question: With the volume pedal being so central to the pedal steel, I would need the ability to have some effects before the VP and some after. I know hx has multiple input/outputs. My VP has multiple outs. That said, would it be possible to run pedal steel—HX—volume pedal—HX—amp? Could I then assign the individual effects to the specific outs? For exapmle, could I assign distortion, modulation, filters before the VP and then have the reverbs and delays assigned after the VP? codamedia
I'm using the HX Effects with Pedal Steel. What you are asking about is certainly possible. There are two options. 1: Insert one of the loops where you want it in the chain and connect your volume pedal to that. This is perfect if you have a really nice volume pedal such as a Goodrich or a Hilton, not to mention this method is foolproof and will work every time. 2: Insert a volume pedal block where you want it in the chain, and connect your volume pedal as an expression and assign it to control the volume pedal block. This works well if your volume pedal isn't high end or if it has a dirty pot (scratchy) since no audio passes through the volume pedal. NOTE: Not all pedals are compatible with this method. Myself.... I use a 250k VP and connect just the output to EXP2 and it works perfectly.

Will you share your preset? :)

Can't share the preset because I no longer use an HX Effects.... sorry. IIRC... it was just some compression and reverb... nothing much beyond that. Will you share your preset? :) After using hx effects and hx stomp together for a while, I’m just using the stomp these days. I’ve found the hx stomp to be very useful for pedal steel. As far as the amp & cabs go, I’ve been using the delux and twin with 2x12 cab. When I’m playing live, I always use a real amp, milkman half and half, using the stomp for effects. The amp and cab sims are still an incredibly powerful and useful tool. I sometimes have gigs where an amp isn’t practical, i can show up to a rehearsal without an amp, and for home recording, the stomp has been my best friend. When I’m setting up a preset, I set up a block for my volume pedal, usually the 4th. That gives me 3 blocks before and 2 after. Perfect for a compressor (If needed), distortion, modulation, the I place delay and reverb after the vp. If I’m using amp & cab sims, I put them in the last two blocks and incorporate external pedals if I need other effects.
