Looking for Advice Creating a Patch for VAX Acoustic Models

Sorry if this has been asked and answered, but I haven't found a good thread.

I have a Variax 600 and POD HD500 connected to a single 8 inch studio monitor connected to the left XLR output (not exactly my dream rig, but I'm happy). I'm a beginning guitar player trying to learn a bit of Folk / Rhythm / Jazz guitar.

I primarily use the acoustic, Jazzbox and Semi models on the Variax (D-28, ES-175, ES-335 and Casino). What I find myself defaulting to is a patch with no amp and no effects, or maybe just an EQ.

I'm pretty happy with the sound, but I suspect there is a lot of room for improvement. And I suspect that many of you are using similar setups.

Can anyone suggest ways to improve on a clean acoustic sound?

Let's face it, the acoustic sound IS a patch with no amp and no effects.

But...

the default patches has entire setlist devoted to acoustic, vocals, and bass.

The newest firmware has a setlist for variax, which has at least 2 acoustic patches in it.

Always a good place to start.

I saw a comment in another thread about using the Hiway 100 as an acoustic amp. The comment was somewhat oblique - I think it was a thread about the acoustic amp in the vintage pack (which I gather is intended for use when output is going to a guitar amp).

Is the Hiway a common choice for acoustic players? I thought it sounded pretty good (which surprised me), and it adds amp control via the knobs. And it adds some boost and EQ on the amp knobs.

Thanks for pointing out the setlist in Bass/Aco/Voc. Somehow the abbreviations didn't catch my eye. Those will be interesting to toy with.
